EDWARDSVILLE, ILLINOIS (October 24, 2024) — The nursing-advocacy organization RegisteredNursing.org released its 2025 Rankings of the Best Online Nurse Practitioner Programs in Illinois and Southern Illinois University Edwardsville’s School of Nursing (SON) took second place.
The web platform's rankings act as a guide for subscribing nurse practitioners to discover the top online programs in the state. Programs offered in Illinois are surveyed based on key factors like completion rates, affordability, institutional reputation, program variety, and faculty expertise.

Of the twelve Illinois nursing-practitioner programs listed, only three were ranked under the category of Best Online Nurse Practitioner Programs in Illinois. The listing mentioned SON’s hand-on clinical training and highlighted the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) specialties in family, pediatric, and psychiatric-mental health. Also recognized was the dual degree option with a Master of Public Health (MPH).
