DAVENPORT, IOWA (October 4, 2019) — Due to sudden illness, soprano Katherine Jolly is unable to join the Quad City Symphony Orchestra (QCSO) for Masterworks I: Statement on October 5 and 6. The QCSO is pleased to announce that soprano Carrie Shaw will join the orchestra to perform the world premiere of the QCSO Commission Autumn Rivulets by David Dzubay.
Carrie Henneman Shaw (2010 and 2017 McKnight Fellowship for Performing Artists awardee) is a St Paul-based soprano whose wide-ranging work includes recording and performing internationally as a soloist and as an ensemble singer. She has soloed with Minnesota Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Music Now series, and has been a featured soloist at the Kennedy Center with The Choral Arts Society of Washington DC in their Christmas gala. She annually records a new Christmas carol for Minnesota Public Radio composed by Abbie Betinis, a member of the multi-generational Burt Family carols tradition.
Shaw also tours with Quince Contemporary Vocal Ensemble, a women’s quartet dedicated to the cultivation of new repertoire for treble voices and which also serves as the vocal forces in Steve Reich’s "Music for 18 Musicians" alongside Grammy-winning Third Coast Percussion and Eighth Blackbird. She is a member of Ensemble Dal Niente, a Chicago-based collective which can be heard on New Amsterdam Records’ 2016 release “Balter/Saunier”, a collaboration with rock band Deerhoof. As an early-music specialist, Carrie has sung operatic roles with Boston Early Music Festival and regularly self-produces programs of 17th- and early-18th-century music in Minnesota, as well as collaborating with groups such as The Mirandola Ensemble and Flying Forms. Carrie’s first solo recording, Beloved and Betrayed: Music for Voice and Flute by Montéclair, will be released in early 2020 on Naxos Records.
