DAVENPORT, IOWA (January 13, 2023) — The Quad City Symphony Orchestra (QCSO) is excited to announce its partnership with Second Baptist Church Music and Arts Academy to provide group violin lessons for elementary students.

In 2017, the QCSO and the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Mississippi Valley (BGCMV) launched an initiative to create access to music education for members of the Davenport and Moline Boys and Girls Clubs by providing group cello lessons and bi-weekly instruction.

Since the inauguration of the group lesson program, it has expanded to offer both violin and cello group lessons, and the QCSO has established new partnerships with Spring Forward and Second Baptist Church Outreach Music & Arts Academy.

All group lessons are free for students and include access to a violin or cello for the school year.

The Second Baptist Church (SBC) Outreach Music and Arts Academy is a non-profit, community-based institution dedicated to providing students of all ages with high-quality, affordable instruction in music and performing arts. With these programs, the Academy seeks to transform lives by providing the tools necessary to promote self-confidence and discipline needed to succeed in life, as well as the life-long joy of making music.

“We are excited for SBC students to begin their journey with violin and work with our inspiring Violin/Viola Teaching Artist, Kim Busic,” said Chelsea Sammons, QCSO Director of Education and Community Engagement. “Group lessons are the start of an inspiring and confidence-building journey with music.”

The partnership between the QCSO and SBC merges the mission and vision of both organizations by providing accessible musical opportunities for students in the Quad Cities.

Reverend Carmen Ausborn, Director of the SBC Outreach Music and Arts Academy, said “Our relationship with the Quad City Symphony Orchestra Education Department has been such an extremely positive experience for our students that I’m sure it will impact their lives for years to come. Many of our students have never been exposed to the level of instruction they’ve received from QCSO teachers which is evident of their interest and improvement!”
