Sen. Chuck Grassley, chairman of the International Narcotics Control Caucus and chairman of the Judiciary Committee, earlier this month was the lead Republican on a bipartisan letter urging the White House to reconsider a proposal to virtually eliminate funding for the Office of National Drug Control Policy. The President’s budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2018 largely reverses the proposed cut. Grassley made the following comment on the change.
“Congress has the power of the purse strings. With the budget, the President proposes and Congress disposes. Still, the President’s budget is an indication of the Administration’s priorities. I’m pleased the Administration agrees that the right signal to send to the communities battling opioid addiction, methamphetamine and other dangerous drugs is that the federal government appreciates their struggle and how they work to get the most bang for the buck out of the federal dollars sent their way.”
