BLOOMFIELD, IA - A new children's book is now available at local retailers and online. Robby the Robot, written by Iowa native Monica Shelton, is a story that many can relate to, no matter the reader's age level or experience. It's a story of perseverance, patience, and personal growth. Shelton explains more:
We all have an innate need to communicate with others and bond with them. But, for some children even trying to communicate is overwhelming and out of their reach. This book communicates hope to these children through the metaphor of Robbie's journey to learn to communicate. The book can also be useful with siblings and classmates to help build understanding and relationships with these children with family members and in the classroom.
Monica Shelton received a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Indiana State University. She has worked more than two decades as a licensed marriage and family therapist in a variety of settings, including a community mental health center, private practice, and most recently in a non-profit counseling center. Monica works primarily with children with behavioral issues and their families. She has two wonderful daughters and lives in rural SE Iowa on a small family farm. In her free time, she enjoys writing and looks forward to telling many more stories.
