BETTENDORF, IOWA (February 24, 2025) — On Thursday, February 27, Bettendorf High School (BHS) power mechanics students will have the unique opportunity to engage with the National Guard's mobile service vehicle. This specialized vehicle, deployed in the field to repair broken-down military vehicles, functions as a fully-operational auto shop on wheels.

The visit will provide students with firsthand exposure to military maintenance operations while learning about career pathways within the armed forces. The National Guard representatives will present an overview of their work and demonstrate how their mobile service vehicle operates, offering students a hands-on look at the technical skills and problem-solving required in military vehicle maintenance.

“This is a great opportunity for our students to not only see the National Guard in action but also to explore potential careers in military service and mechanical repair,” said Joe Shoemaker, industrial technology teacher at Bettendorf High School. “Seeing this advanced mobile repair shop up close will give them a better understanding of the real-world applications of the skills they are learning in class.”

The Bettendorf Community School District is committed to providing students with career exploration opportunities that connect classroom learning to real-world professions.
