Family Chinese New Year Celebration
On Saturday, February 16, from 11AM to 1PM, celebrate a traditional Chinese New Year at the Discovery Center. They are teaming up with friends from the Pangea International Academy to bring you an insightful and culture-rich experience. You’ll meet students from China who are attending Clinton High School as they share with us the customs and traditions of Chinese children and their families. This celebration will start off with a roaring traditional dragon dance with a giant dragon puppet operated by eight dancers, accompanied by two drummers. This will lead into demonstrations of a Chinese tea ceremony, a traditional Chinese dance, and Tai Chi. Following the stage exhibitions, families will be invited to explore activity stations, including: making a Chinese lantern; making a Fú good fortune plaque; preparing red packets for their children; sampling tea; and a Chinese treat, and photo opportunities, with the giant dragon puppet. The Discovery Center is located at 332 8th Avenue South in downtown Clinton, Iowa, at the foot of the US 30 Bridge over the mighty Mississippi. They are open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 9:30AM to 5PM, and Sundays 12:30 to 5PM. Admission is $4 per person ages two to 64, $3 per person ages 65 and older, free for children one and younger, and free for members of the children's museum.
