ANKENY, IOWA (August 13, 2024) Iowans for Adoption, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, led by volunteers for 13+ years, is pleased to announce its first in-person event since COVID-19. This celebration emphasizes the importance of Iowa’s children and families. Money raised will be used for grants to Iowa families who are adopting children and for distributing free adoption educational materials, programming, advertisements, and curricula for statewide use.

Members of Iowans for Adoption collaborate with many entities to help ensure that all children in Iowa have a safe, permanent, loving, nurturing and stable family that contributes to their positive health, development, and well-being. In Iowa, hundreds of kids who are living in foster care (out-of-home care) are legally eligible for adoption and more foster parents are needed. According to Dr Diana Lang, Executive Director and Founder of Iowans for Adoption, “Countless families in our state are impacted by various types of adoptions; our events honor and recognize everyone involved in adoptions, foster care, and those who support Iowa’s children and families.”

Multiple organizations have also joined Iowans for Adoption to host an in-person and virtual Move for Adoption. The in-person event is Sunday, September 8, 12:45PM, at the Ankeny DMACC campus (Building #3W), 2006 S. Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny, Iowa. The virtual event can be completed any day, any time, with any activity and any distance anywhere in the world, through November.

“The goals of our Move for Adoption events are to celebrate adoption, children, and families, and to raise awareness about all facets of adoption and foster care. The virtual event will run through National Adoption Month, which takes place in November,” Lang said.

Individuals can register/order a shirt for the in-person and virtual event at IowansForAdoption.org/Events. All individuals are invited to move in any way for any distance. At DMACC (Ankeny), a 5K Fun Run will begin at 1PM for all ages, and at 1:10PM, all are welcome to move in any way (walk, roll, stroll, run, or watch) and any distance. The in-person event includes face-painting, balloons, food, vendors with promotional items, and medals for all youth in attendance. All paid participants receive a shirt. All are welcome to attend even without registering; registrations can also be made at the event. Please see the attached flyer for additional information.
