ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (September 26, 2024) — Illinois Joining Forces (IJF) announced a Military and Veterans Night Out at Rock Island Arsenal on Friday, September 27, 5-8PM. Located on a 946-acre military-base island in the Mississippi River, this event serves as a unique opportunity for Illinois veterans, military members, and their families to connect, share experiences, and access valuable resources.

"Events like these really make a difference by fostering a sense of belonging and providing vital resources to those who have served. The emphasis on community underscores the importance of support networks in addressing the unique challenges veterans face. It is great to see Illinois Joining Forces leading the way in building these connections and offering the necessary support for military families in Northwest Illinois,” said Erica Borggren, Board Chairwoman of IJF.

Recent research from the US Department of Veterans Affairs continues to show that the transition from military life to civilian life can be challenging. In 2021, 6,392 veterans died by suicide, representing an increase of 114 suicides from 2020. Social isolation, often a consequence of this transition, can lead to feelings of disconnection and loneliness, which can be especially challenging for veterans and their families.

“Events like these play a pivotal role in dismantling the barriers that often prevent veterans and their families from seeking help. By tackling stigma and providing inclusive support, Illinois Joining Forces is not only enhancing awareness but also making a tangible difference in the lives of service members. IJF’s commitment to serving all veterans, regardless of their era of service or manner of discharge, exemplifies a model of support that can impact the community. It is inspiring to be part of such dedicated efforts in action,” said Brenda Osuch, Executive Director of IJF.

Registration is required.

Attendees will also enjoy exclusive access to Rock Island Arsenal, a complimentary meal, and the invaluable opportunity to interact with service providers and gain insights into local resources.
