DES MOINES, IOWA (April 17, 2025) — Governor Kim Reynolds has released the following statement in response to the Iowa House and Senate passing SF 619, a bill to exempt disaster assistance payments from state taxes, fill disaster-relief funds, provide fraud protections for home-owners in the insurance-claims process, and better prepare Iowa for future natural disasters:

“Iowa faced devastating tornadoes and historic flooding in Spring 2024, leaving families, farms, businesses, schools, and entire communities in peril. Our state was granted three presidential disaster declarations in just two months’ time, and our relief programs were vital for helping us rebuild,” Gov Reynolds said.

“I look forward to signing the disaster relief bill when it gets to my desk, helping protect Iowans from future emergencies.”
