DES MOINES, IOWA (March 5, 2025) — Governor Kim Reynolds has released the following statement in response to the Iowa House Local Government Committee passing HSB246, a bill to fund disaster assistance to Iowans, better protect homeowners and consumers from being taken advantage of in the insurance claims process, and to better prepare the state and our communities for future disasters:

“Iowans across our state faced unprecedented adversity in the wake of last year’s devastating tornadoes and floods. In just two months, Iowa was granted three presidential disaster declarations,” Gov Reynolds said. “Thanks to local, state, and federal partners — and the grace of selfless Iowans — we were able to help thousands displaced by the storms. Now, we must follow through in our commitment to continue to provide support for those who desperately need it, to protect Iowans working with insurance to repair or rebuild their homes, and improve our systems to respond even faster the next time disaster strikes.”
