DAVENPORT, IOWA (June 28, 2024) — Gilda’s Club Quad Cities is excited to announce the expansion of services to serve the entire state of Iowa, marking a significant milestone in our mission to support individuals impacted by cancer. This expansion was made possible by a generous grant from the Iowa Cancer Consortium. With Iowa having the second-highest cancer incidence rate in the nation, no-cost support is more crucial than ever before.

We’re incredibly excited about this opportunity to make a bigger impact on the lives of Iowans being impacted by cancer. To reflect this expansion, we’ll be changing our name to Cancer Support Community Iowa and NW Illinois at Gilda’s Club. The community support has been instrumental in our journey, and we look forward to continuing this journey together under our new name. This new name better represents the broader scope of our services while still honoring the legacy of Gilda Radner.

Our new name, Cancer Support Community Iowa and NW Illinois at Gilda’s Club, more accurately represents the broad range of services we provide to individuals affected by cancer across a wider geographic area. This inclusivity ensures that no one feels excluded based on location, thus reinforcing our commitment to serving the entire community. This change does not erase our history but rather builds upon it to ensure a vibrant future. We are committed to maintaining the spirit of warmth, support and compassion that Gilda’s Club has always represented.

A name that clearly states “Cancer Support” improves our visibility and accessibility to those who need our services. It helps potential members, healthcare providers, and supporters easily identify the nature of our organization and the support we offer. By making our purpose explicit, we hope to reach more people in need and provide them with the resources and community they deserve.

We know this may raise some questions but rest assured that this is fantastic news for the community.

  • No Changes Here: Your beloved Gilda's Club Quad Cities experience remains the same! Our local programming, support groups, and events will continue as usual, providing the same level of care and community you've come to expect.
  • Expanded Support Network: This expansion allows us to reach more Iowans battling cancer and their families, offering them the same emotional support, social connection, and educational resources that have been so beneficial here in the Quad Cities.
  • Stronger Resources: This grant empowers us to develop a wider network of support, potentially leading to even more resources and programming for everyone we serve.

Cancer Support Community Iowa & NW Illinois at Gilda’s Club will continue to provide the same no cost services, programs, and support to those being impacted by cancer. Our comprehensive program includes support groups, educational workshops, and social activities designed to help those impacted by cancer regain control of their lives, improve quality of life, and build connections with others facing similar challenges.
