CLINTON, IOWA (July 18, 2019) — The Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center, "Clinton, Iowa's Children's Museum," is excited because the Pirate Tea Parrrty is this week at a special WOW Wednesday! On Friday, meet Ali Duggan and her 4-H bunnies, then come read with Ms Cotton on Saturday morning at Storytime Saturday. Each of these programs is free with regular museum admission or membership. And plan on enjoying the Fareway Fundraiser Cookout on Friday, August 2. Also, a reminder that the Discovery Center is a Blue Star Museum, granting free admission to active duty military and their families through Labor Day.

WOW Wednesday Event: Pirate Tea Parrrty

It’s here, the WOW Wednesday special event on Wednesday, July 24, 2-4PM, sponsored by US Bank Foundation and Clinton Lions Club — Ahoy! Set course for the Discover Center. All hands on deck — we’re approaching the Pirate Tea Parrrty. Lasses and lads are encouraged to dress in costume for the occasion. Don your finest pirate garb, become a mystical mermaid, or dress as your other favorite seafaring creature. Party activities are perfect for all ages and will include tea and snacks, a treasure hunt, games, creation projects, and the opportunity to meet a real parrot. Reservations are appreciated so please call the Discovery Center at 563-243-3600.

Funtime Friday: Ali & Her 4-H Bunnies

Friday, July 26, at 10AM is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation. Meet Ali Duggan and her 4-H bunnies. Pet her cuddly little friends and learn how to care for them. As always, this program includes a snack and craft to go with the theme. This popular program is designed for pre-schoolers and their grown-ups, although all-age children are welcome anytime, especially during summer vacations when everyone is out of school.

Storytime Saturday: “Caterpillars and Butterflies”

Every Saturday during this summer at 10AM is Storytime Saturday with Ms Cotton. Enjoy a good book (or two!) on a Saturday morning with Rachel Cotton, an Americorps Literacy Volunteer. This week’s theme is “Caterpillars and Butterflies.” Ms Cotton will bring her passion for books, reading, and fun; and many will know her from her work at Eagle Heights Elementary this year. Running less than an hour each Saturday, the program is designed to engage all levels of readers — emerging to proficient — and promises to be great family fun. A FREE enrichment program with your regular museum admission!

Fareway Fundraiser Cookout

Friday, August 2, 11AM-1PM, the Fareway Food Store in Clinton will host a Fundraiser Cookout to benefit the Discovery Center. Come up to the store, as they will be grilling up lunch and serving it to shoppers on-site. The lunch deal is $5 and includes a delicious Fareway hamburger or bratburger, chips, a drink, and a homemade cookie or bar. Also, businesses can call the Discovery Center to have their lunch delivered by a helpful Discovery Center Volunteer. The Discovery Center will receive all the profits and tips. Thank you so much to Fareway for helping their local children’s museum.

Blue Star Museum

Again this year, the Discovery Center will participate in the Blue Star Museum program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts. This program begins on Armed Forces Day, May 18, and runs through Labor Day, September 1. As a Blue Star Museum, the Discovery Center will give free museum admission to active-duty military and their families (up to five family members). Active military includes: Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Marines, National Guard, and Reserve Members. Please present your active-duty card at the admission desk when you come to the Discovery Center.
