CLINTON, IOWA (July 3, 2019) — The Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center, "Clinton, Iowa's Children's Museum," is having a blast this summer with these activities and events: Make aerodynamic marvels on WOW Wednesdays, and plan to juggle with Miss Jean. Then, hoof it to Funtime Friday to meet Miss Angie and her goats. Save the date for the Pirate Tea Parrrty on Wednesday, July 24. Each of these programs is free with regular museum admission or membership. And plan on joining us for the Fareway Fundraiser Cookout on Friday, August 2. Also, a reminder that the Discovery Center is a Blue Star Museum, granting free admission to active duty military and their families through Labor Day, September 1.
WOW Wednesday
Wednesday, July 10, 2-5PM, is a WOW Wednesday at the Discovery Center, sponsored by US Bank Foundation. Stop at the Please-Touch-Table where you’ll get a “lift” out of making a ring-glider. This aircraft is simple and fascinating and will introduce kids to Bernoulli’s Principle of flight.
WOW Wednesday is perfect for school-aged kids and their families and is a great activity for a summer afternoon. WOW Wednesday is drop in with no pre-registration required — it is an enrichment program with no extra class-fee.
Miss Jean is also here every WOW Wednesday, with her chess, juggling, and logic puzzles. Miss Jean teaches beginning-chess to all, from preschoolers through adult, or she will play a strategic game with an opponent to match their skill-level. Additionally, she loves to juggle and can teach anyone of any age to become a successful juggler. Also, she has on hand three large cases of logic puzzles, construction materials, and hands-on brain-teasers to fascinate any age. She can teach anyone; all ages and abilities are welcome.
Funtime Friday
Friday, July 12, 10AM, is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation. Don’t kid around — come to the Discovery Center to meet Miss Angie and her goats. Angie is well known for her friendly flock of chickens who love to visit the Discovery Center. Now her baby goats wanted to join in the fun. She’ll teach us how she cares for them and tell us about goats as pets. You’ll learn what they do all day and what they like to eat. As always, this program includes a snack to go with the theme. This popular program is designed for preschoolers and their grown-ups, although all-age children are welcome anytime, especially during summer vacations when everyone is out of school.
Pirate Tea Parrrty
Get ready on Wednesday, July 24, from 2 to 4 p.m., for a special WOW Wednesday event sponsored by US Bank. Ahoy! Set course for the Discover Center. All hands on deck — we’re approaching the Pirate Tea Parrrty. Lasses and lads are encouraged to dress in costume for the occasion. Don your finest pirate garb, become a mystical mermaid, or dress as your other favorite seafaring creature. Party activities are perfect for all ages and will include tea and snacks, a treasure hunt, games, creation projects, and you get to meet a real parrot. Reservations are appreciated so please call the Discovery Center.
Fareway Fundraiser Cookout
Friday, August 2, 11AM-1PM, the Fareway Food Store in Clinton will host a Fundraiser Cookout to benefit the Discovery Center. Come up to the store, as they will be grilling up lunch and serving it to shoppers on site. Choose from a delicious Fareway hamburger or bratburger for only $3. Add chips and a drink for only one dollar more. Also, businesses can call the Discovery Center to have their lunch delivered by a helpful Discovery Center Volunteer. The Discovery Center will receive all the profits and tips. Thank you so much to Fareway for helping their local children’s museum
Blue Star Museum
Again this year, the Discovery Center will participate in the Blue Star Museum program sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts.
