CLINTON, IOWA (August 29, 2019) — The Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center, "Clinton, Iowa's Children's Museum," is having a week of literary experiences. On Wednesday, learn why dragons love tacos. On Friday, bring your favorite book to Read a Book Day. Each of these programs is free with regular museum admission or membership. And save the date for the new Discovery Center Fundraiser Dinner Event at The Vista Grande on Thursday, September 19.

WOW Wednesday: Dragons Love Tacos

Wednesday, September 4, 2-5PM, is a WOW Wednesday at the Discovery Center, sponsored by Clinton Lions Club. Make your way to the Please-Touch-Table for a literary experience. This week, you’ll be learning about dragons. More specifically, you’ll learn if dragons love tacos. There is also a yummy-looking craft to go with this story.

Miss Jean is also here every WOW Wednesday, with her chess, juggling, and logic-puzzles. She’s been bringing in new games every week so stop by and see what her new favorites are. Miss Jean teaches beginning chess to all, from preschoolers through adult, or she will play a strategic game with an opponent to match their skill level. Additionally, she loves to juggle and can teach anyone of any age to become a successful juggler. Also, she has on hand three large cases of logic puzzles, construction materials, and hands-on brain-teasers to fascinate any age. She can teach anyone; all ages and abilities are welcome.

WOW Wednesday is perfect for school-aged kids and their families and is a great activity for a school early out afternoon. WOW Wednesday is drop in with no pre-registration required — it is an enrichment program with no extra class-fee.

Funtime Friday: Read a Book Day

Friday, September 6, 10AM, is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation. It’s Read a Book Day. Bring your favorite book to Funtime Friday and celebrate reading. As always, there will be a snack to go with the theme. This popular program is designed for pre-schoolers and their grown-ups, although all age children are welcome anytime.

Discovery Center Community Outreach

The Discovery Center is out and about helping its community by bringing its brand of entertainment and fun to area organizations. Come visit them at the following events on: Saturday, September 21: Clinton MS Walk at the Riverfront at 10AM — providing free face-painting; and then, at Downtown Clinton Oktoberfest, 3-6PM — providing free face-paint, games, and activities, balloons, and much Discovery Center fun.

Fundraiser Dinner Event

Grown-ups only: Plan to attend a Fundraiser Dinner Event on Thursday, September 19, 5-9:30PM, at the Vista Grande. This will be a "grown-ups only" party with dinner, drinks, dancing, and a silent auction, designed for the kid in all of us. There will be live music and dancing with the popular band Coupe DeVille. Learn to play again at a party that will showcase some of the great learning experiences offered at your local children’s museum. You can call to reserve your table or buy your tickets at the Discovery Center 563-243-3600 or Windmill Realty 815-589-9191.

The Discovery Center is located at 332 8th Avenue South in downtown Clinton, Iowa, at the foot of the US 30 Bridge over the mighty Mississippi — where the Lincoln Highway meets the Great River Road. They are open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 9:30AM-5PM, and Sundays, 12:30-5PM. Museum admission is $4 per person ages two to 64, $3 per person ages 65 and older, free for children one and younger, and free for members of the children's museum.

The Felix Adler Children's Discovery Center is a non-profit children's museum whose mission is to provide a safe and positive environment for families to discover the world by exploring arts, culture, literacy, and science through educational programs and interactive exhibits.
