CLINTON, IOWA (September 5, 2019) — The Felix Adler Children’s Discovery Center, "Clinton, Iowa's Children's Museum," has a patriotic and busy week planned. On Wednesday, Patriot Day will be observed. On Friday, get ready to take over the kitchen. Each of these programs is free with regular museum admission or membership. Also, all day, Friday is the Fill the Clown Shoe Drive-Thru Event, 7AM-7PM. And save the date for the new Discovery Center Fundraiser Dinner Event at The Vista Grande on Thursday, September 19.

WOW Wednesday: Make a Flag for Patriot Day

Wednesday, September 11, 2-5PM, is a WOW Wednesday at the Discovery Center, sponsored by Clinton Lions Club. Friends at the Please-Touch-Table will commemorate Patriot Day by making a flag to take home.

Chess, juggling, and logic puzzles are also a big hit every Wednesday at the Discovery Center. Miss Jean teaches beginning chess to all, from preschoolers through adult, or she will play a strategic game with an opponent to match their skill-level. Additionally, she loves to juggle and can teach anyone of any age to become a successful juggler. Also, she has on hand three large cases of logic puzzles, construction materials, and hands-on brain-teasers to fascinate any age. She can teach anyone; all ages and abilities are welcome.

WOW Wednesday is perfect for school-aged kids and their families and is a great activity for a school early-out afternoon. WOW Wednesday is drop in with no pre-registration required — it is an enrichment program with no extra class fee.

Funtime Friday: Kids Take Over the Kitchen

Friday, September 13, 10AM, is Funtime Friday, sponsored by Clinton Kiwanis Club and Alliant Energy Foundation. Kids are taking over the kitchen on this Funtime Friday. Learn a little bit about cooking and make your own yummy snack. This popular program is designed for preschoolers and their grown-ups, although all-age children are welcome anytime.

Fill the Clown Shoe Drive-Thru Event

On Friday, September 13, 7AM-7PM, drive through the Discovery Center parking lot and donate by dropping spare change into giant clown shoes, attended by volunteers. No amount is too small. There will also be a live radio broadcast with Chris Streets of MaC 94.7 FM/AM1390 KCLN, 9-11AM. Drive through while Chris is there and you could be on the radio.

Fundraiser Dinner Event — Grown Ups Only

Grown-ups only: Plan to attend a Fundraiser Dinner Event on Thursday, September 19, 5-9:30PM, at the Vista Grande. This will be a "grown-ups only" party with dinner, drinks, dancing, and a silent auction, designed for the kid in all of us. There will be live music and dancing with the popular band Coupe DeVille. Learn to play again at a party that will showcase some of the great learning-experiences offered at your local children’s museum. Tickets are $40 per person, or $300 for a table of eight people. For tickets and complete information, call the Discovery Center 563-243-3600 or Windmill Realty 815-589-9191.

The Discovery Center is located at 332 8th Avenue South in downtown Clinton, Iowa, at the foot of the US 30 Bridge over the mighty Mississippi — where the Lincoln Highway meets the Great River Road. They are open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 9:30AM-5PM, and Sundays, 12:30-5PM. Museum admission is $4 per person ages two to 64, $3 per person ages 65 and older, free for children one and younger, and free for members of the children's museum.

The Felix Adler Children's Discovery Center is a non-profit children's museum whose mission is to provide a safe and positive environment for families to discover the world by exploring arts, culture, literacy, and science through educational programs and interactive exhibits. They turn no one away based on inability to pay.
