WEST DES MOINES, IOWA (February 12, 2025) — People with conditions like plantar fasciitis, flat feet, foot injuries, and other foot and ankle issues now have a new option for custom arch-support care. Custom arch-supports also have the potential to help those with knee, hip, and back pain.

Starting March 4, Jarrod Smith DPM DABFAS, will offer personalized arch support services at the Des Moines University (DMU) Clinic in the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex at 6500 Grand Ave.

Smith, a podiatric specialist with extensive experience in foot and ankle care, will work with patients to provide customized arch supports that help improve mobility, reduce discomfort and enhance overall foot health. He graduated from DMU's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery in 2008 and has been practicing at the DMU Clinic — Foot and Ankle since 2021 after ten years in private practice. His expertise includes biomechanics and foot health management.

In addition to expanding orthotics (arch-support) services to the clinic in the RecPlex, Smith will continue providing care at the DMU foot and ankle clinic at 3200 Grand Ave in Des Moines.

Bringing custom arch-support services to the RecPlex will make specialized podiatric care more accessible to active individuals and athletes in West Des Moines. Getting arch-supports from a physician ensures a thorough assessment of foot health, proper diagnosis, and a custom treatment plan. Unlike generic products offered in retail stores, the arch-supports prescribed by Smith are specifically designed to fit each patient's needs and can be adjusted if necessary.

"By offering arch-support services in the RecPlex, we're making expert care more convenient for area residents," says Kevin Smith DPM PhD FACFAS, Dean of DMU's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery and a 1995 DMU alumnus.

"This expansion of services allows us to provide personalized treatment options for patients dealing with conditions like plantar fasciitis, flat feet and sports-related injuries," Smith DPM PhD FACFAS said.
