APPLETON, WIS. (November 10, 2017) - Nick Fahrenkrug, son of Thomas and Theresa Fahrenkrug, Davenport, earned first-place honors in the sophomore's men division at the recent (Nov. 2-4) Wisconsin chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition. He received $150 for his first-place finish. A sophomore at Lawrence University, Fahrenkrug is a 2016 graduate of Central High School. Fahrenkrug sang “Crucifixion” by Samuel Barber, “Chanson a Boire” by Maurice Ravel and “Lieben, Hassen, Hoffen, Zagen” by Richard Strauss in the finals. This was the second year in a row Fahrenkrug has won his division in the state NATS competition. The 2017 auditions drew nearly 400 singers from around the state, including 41 Lawrence students. The competition features 28 separate gender and class year divisions. Depending upon the category, NATS competitors are required to sing two, three or four classical pieces from different time periods with at least one selection performed in a foreign language. About Lawrence University Founded in 1847, Lawrence University uniquely integrates a college of liberal arts and sciences with a nationally recognized conservatory of music, both devoted exclusively to undergraduate education.
