MOLINE, ILLINOIS (August 30, 2024) — The Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House will host a celebration on Sunday, September 15, 12-5PM, at their annual Porch Party, of the successful completion of their first-ever capital campaign, Honoring Our Heritage, to benefit historic Deere-Wiman House, former residence of four generations of the Deere family.
This year’s Porch Party includes all four buildings open to the public, Deere-Wiman House tunnel tour, community group presentations, scavenger hunt, Audubon prints on display, food trucks, live music, and more!
Deere-Wiman House, recently designated a Moline Historic Landmark, has been in the care of the William Butterworth Foundation since 1976, per the instructions of Pattie Southall Wiman (Mrs Charles Deere Wiman), who donated her home as a sister house to Butterworth Center. Since that time, both Deere-Wiman House and Butterworth Center have been funded by the foundation established in 1951 by Katherine Deere Butterworth, to financially support a community center, providing free meeting space for non-profits and educational groups. Even with careful stewarding of resources by the Board, however, those original funds are no longer sufficient to ensure the longevity of Deere-Wiman House. The campaign gives the community an opportunity to invest in preserving this important link to local history.
Generous donors include the Jeffris Family Foundation, the Moline Regional Community Foundation, John Deere Corporation, current and former John Deere executives and employees, Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House staff, board members, and volunteers, as well as many members of the Quad Cities community and beyond.
Donations to preserve Deere-Wiman House will still be gratefully received, 1) online at butterworthcenter.com/DWHcampaign 2) by check, payable to the William Butterworth Foundation with a notation of “campaign” mailed to Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House, 1105 8th St, Moline, Illinois, 61265, or 3) pledge, gift of stock, IRA contribution, or other.
The William Butterworth Foundation, (EIN: 46-4274627) a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, manages and funds both Butterworth Center, 1105 8th St, Moline, Illinois, 61265, and Deere-Wiman House, 817 11th Ave, Moline Illinois, 61265. These historic homes, once residences of Deere, Butterworth, and Wiman family members, now function as a community center that provides complimentary meeting space for other not-for-profit organizations, educational and cultural programming, free family events, historic tours, and local college and university scholarships.
