ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (March 11, 2025) — Media are invited to Augustana College’s Shades of Beauty event 1-4PM, March 16, at the Gävle Rooms of the Gerber Center for Student Life.

The annual event celebrates self-expression, confidence, and women empowerment. The event kicks off with a 1PM mixer and fashion show and then continues with food, music, activities, and giveaways. The event is organized by Augustana’s Office of Student Inclusion and Diversity with support from Augustana’s Office of Student Life and Leadership and Dress for Success Quad Cities.

Ashley Allen, executive director of inclusion and intercultural experiences, said this year’s student-led theme is Fashion Unfiltered: Own It, Wear It, Be It.

“More than just clothing, fashion is a reflection of identity, culture, and individuality,” Allen said. “Through Shades of Beauty 2025, we are creating a space where every woman, in every shade, feels seen, valued, and inspired to own her beauty, wear it with confidence, and be the truest version of herself.”

This year’s featured speaker is Tanaja Ross, a self-taught entrepreneur and fashion industry expert with more than twenty years of experience. She is the founder of Aja Styles Fashion and Accessories Boutique, now Aja On The Go. For the past fourteen years, her work has included styling and empowering women of all sizes, promoting body positivity, and helping individuals embrace their unique beauty.
