Shindig! A Tribute to the '60s at the Ohnward Fine Arts Center -- May 20.
Saturday, May 20, 7 p.m.
Ohnward Fine Arts Center, 1215 East Platt Street, Maquoketa IA
Covering a decade of musical eras ranging from the British Invasion to Woodstock, and a variety of styles including pop, psychedelia, and girl groups, the touring sensations of Shindig! A Tribute to the '60s bring their popular stage performance to Maquoketa's Ohnward Fine Arts Center on May 20, taking patrons on an entertaining trip back to one of the greatest and most diverse decades in the history of rock.
With the vocalists and instrumentalists credited on a friendly, first-name-only basis, the quintet of Shar, Jim, Joe, Jerry, and Mark have designed Shindig! A Tribute to the '60s to cover more than 90 different bands from a period in time in which popular music told the story of an entire generation. Through frequent wardrobe changes, the musicians' unique period costumes mirror each set of music being delivered, bringing audiences a genuine feeling of being immersed in the 1960s music scene.
Featuring songs by the Beatles, the Beach Boys, the Monkees, the Rolling Stones, the Supremes, Herman's Hermits, the Mamas & the Papas, Sonny & Cher, and more, Shindig! creates true-to-the-originals renditions of the 45s and 39s played on AM radio during this decade of great music. And although many classics by the aforementioned artists are sure to be heard during every touring performance, music fans will also likely catch a more under-the-radar favorite here and there, as the Shindig! repertoire of more than 100 pop and rock favorites also includes the likes of the Archies' "Sugar Sugar," Betty Everett's "Shoop Shoop Song," Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth," Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit," the Kinks' You Really Got Me," Petula Clark's "Downtown," and the Turtles' "Happy Together."
Shindig! A Tribute to the '80s comes to Maquoketa on May 20, admission to the 7n p.m. concert event is $13-25, and more information and tickets are available by calling (563)652-9815 and visiting OhnwardFineArtsCenter.com.
