Having previously recorded Daytrotter sessions in 2011 and 2012, Seattle-based singer/songwriter Shenandoah Davis returns to the Quad Cities for an intimate concert at Rozz-Tox, showcasing not only her acclaimed indie-pop vocals, but piano skills lauded by Daytrotter founder Sean Moeller: “It's like a flock of peacocks are spreading their wings right out there in the middle of an Independence Day fireworks celebration's grand finale.”
After graduating from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in opera performance, Davis moved to Seattle and released her solo album We; Camera in 2008 – a debut that the Portland Mercury found “teeming with these dangerous-but-beautiful moments that suck the breath right out of you.” Several years of national touring commenced, and after Davis' sophomore album The Company You Keep earned even more critical kudos in 2011, the touring became international, with the artist traveling to New Zealand, Australia, and Portugal, and opening for the likes of Angel Olsen, Martha Wainwright, and the Lumineers.
Davis' October 13 concert will find the 32-year-old performing songs from both her previous LPs and and her new album Souvenirs, which was released in September and continues the artist's run of exceptional reviews. According to Pitchfork.com: “Beyond its emotional dexterity, the sound of Souvenirs is astoundingly well-rounded, as Davis' wise-beyond-her-years lyrics mesh seamlessly with lush orchestral instrumentation and a strikingly high-pitched, classically-trained voice that lies somewhere between Joanna Newsom, Joni Mitchell, and some shivering lovelorn aria.”
Shenandoah Davis performs locally with an opening set by the Chicago-based experimental duo Ohmme, and more information on the night is available by calling (309)200-0978 or visiting RozzTox.com.
