· Speaking of cover projects, Valley Entertainment has announced that it will soon issue Sayin' Hello to the Folks, a new album from master songwriter Jules Shear, covering selected "non-hits" by his favorite artists. Some of the tracks from the project include Woody Guthrie's "1913 Massacre," Roger Miller's "Husbands & Wives," the Dave Clark Five's "I've Got to Have a Reason," Todd Rundgren's "Be Nice to Me," and Procol Harum's "Too Much Between Us." As the man who wrote Cyndi Lauper's "All Through the Night," "If She Knew What She Wants," and "If We Never Meet Again," Shear knows a good song when he hears one. A few hits do sneak in, including James Brown's "Ain't That a Groove" and Mungo Jerry's "In the Summertime."
· If you were chilled by the atmospheric landscapes built by electronic artist BT for the score of the Charlize Theron film Monster, more explorations and inspirations from the film are due next Tuesday. The DTS Entertainment imprint is releasing a special CD and DVD package of these sessions, with the DVD aiming its six-channel mix directly at home-theater enthusiasts, with a bonus interview with the artists and the theatrical trailer.
