Spotlighting selections from Hank Mobley's iconic 1960 album Soul Station alongside additional compositions by both Mobley and jazz great Wynton Kelly, the Linscheid | Kendrick Quartet performs a special concert at Moline's Sound Conservatory on November 2, the event featuring saxophonist Joel Linscheid and pianist Corey Kendrick performing alongside Andy Crawford's deep bass grooves and Jason Brannon's rhythmic foundation on drums.

Joel Linscheid is a saxophonist, educator, and composer currently based in Rock Island, where he has served as Director of Jazz Studies and Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Augustana College since 2021. As a music educator, he has more 15 years of experience teaching students of all ages and ability levels. From 2013 to 2017, Linscheid served as Instructor of Music at Bethel College in North Newton, Kansas. He has also taught at the University of Colorado (Boulder), Hutchinson Community College, and Friends University. He performs frequently in a variety of musical settings, from jazz to classical to pop; has previously been active on the music scenes in Boston, Denver, Kansas City, and Wichita; and has worked for Holland America Cruise Lines. Additionally, Linscheid has performed in educational or professional settings with many notable musicians, including Dave Douglas, Bobby Watson, Dave Holland, Brad Leali, Allen Vizzutti, Wycliffe Gordon, Tanya Darby, Jerry Hahn, Michael Feinstein, Johnny Mathis, The Temptations, and The Four Tops.

Corey Kendrick is a pianist, composer, recording artist, and educator currently living in Davenport. Kendrick is Director of Instrumental Music at Black Hawk College in Moline. Praised by Downbeat Magazine’s John Ephland as a “very accomplished, highly gifted jazz pianist” with “a patient, maturing voice,” Kendrick has a skillful touch that is both immediately recognizable and deeply expressive. Kendrick released his debut album, Rootless, in June of 2016, which JazzTimes.com’s Travis Roger, Jr. called “a debut album that stands among the finest albums of the year.” Rated five stars by Bebop Spoken Here’s Lance Liddle, Rootless quickly climbed the jazz radio charts, reaching numbers four, five, and 35b on the CMJ, RMR, and JazzWeek charts, respectively. The album was also featured on PRI’s syndicated program Jazz After Hours.
