On March 23, two Windy City quartets take the stage for one exhilarating Redstone Room concert, when the Chicago-based jam bands EGi and Chachuba perform a dual-headliner set on spring tours held in support of the former's latest album and the latter's album debut.
With its musicians hailing from the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, EGi – an acronym for Ethereal Groove, Incorporated – originated in 2009, and currently features James Hernandez and Noe Perez on guitar, Allan Burokhovich on bass, and Drew Littell on drums. Performing a blend of rock, funk, and progressive post-rock described as “what it would feel like to live in The Neverending Story,” the group made its full-length album debut with 2016's Plyatron, which was praised by ListenLiveAndLocal.com for its “energetic improvisational jams.” EGi performs locally in conjunction with the release of the band's sophomore album, the March 2 release Vessel, before embarking on a tour that will take the musicians to seven states over three weeks.
Composed of Northwest Chicago's Jimmy Klimek on guitar, Nate Beitz on bass, Sean DiCosola on keyboards, and Gary Goodheart on drums, Chachuba is a four-piece ensemble that melds bold electronic elemets with a backbone of improvisational jazz fusion. Greatly influences by electronic dance music, Chachuba's repertoire of originals has been praised for its melodic guitar riffs, trace-y synths, and pulsating bass, and has played noted Midwestern venues ranging from Chicago's House of Blues to Colorado's State Bridge Amphitheater. In addition to the band's busy touring schedule, last summer found Chachuba releasing its album debut Space Time, described by TheUntz.com as a work that “showcases their electro-jam band feel while exploring new dimensions and genres of their music.”
EGi and Chachuba perform their March 23 Redstone Room concert with an opening set by the Tripp Brothers, tickets are $10-12, and more information and reservations are available by calling (563)326-1333 or visiting RiverMusicExperience.org.
