Drayton Farley at the Raccoon Motel -- October 5.

Thursday, October 5, 7 p.m.

Raccoon Motel, 315 East Second Street, Davenport IA

Touring in support of his 2023 album Twenty on High, which Holler Country deemed "10 songs of hope pushing back against self-doubt – and vice versa – wrapped in a nostalgic glow," country-music singer/songwriter Drayton Farley headlines an October 5 concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel, the artist's latest inspiring Saving Country Music to call him "among the top flight of resurgent country-adjacent performers carrying on what artists such as Jason Isbell helped instigate."

An Alabama native, Farley, as detailed at AllMusic.com, is "an Americana songwriter with a keen ear for grounded and relatable stories peppered with vivid, blue-collar detail. Born and raised in the small town of Woodstock, Farley released his debut single, 'Trouble in the Pines,' independently in 2018. He combined a par of self-released EPs into the full-length Hargrove & Sweet Summer Sadness two years later and continued to hone his minimalist style and earthy cadence, which recall country-adjacent artists like Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, and Tyler Childers, on 2021's A Hard Life. Recorded at home on his trusty Martin acoustic before working the night shift at a Mercedes Benz plant, the 14-song set connected with Americana and country audiences, and by the end of the year, Farley had left the factory behind and was sharing stages Zach Bryan and Arlo Mckinley."

At the artist's own Web site DraytonFarley.com, it states, "With songs and lyrics pulled from real life experience, there's a grounded feeling to his stories, a confessional quality that rings true to those who know. His voice fills the room like cigarette smoke, curling into every corner of you, with a fine grit rasp that smooths out every rough edge. It lingers hours, days, after you've left the bar – turns of phrase that tumble around your mind, bittersweet and familiar. He sings as deeply about the love he holds as the love he's lost and there's something so broken-in and comfortable about that Southern inflection that every song feels like coming home." Farley's talents have earned him numerous raves since his debut, with Americana Highways stating that with "lyrics that are immediately reminiscent of the humor and subtlety of John Prine, the directness and honesty of Bob Dylan, and the everyman gravity of Pete Seeger, Farley firmly establishes himself as one of the great American voices in folk and Americana music.”

Drayton Farley performs his Davenport engagement on October 5, admission to the 7 p.m. concert is $20, and tickets are available by visiting TheRaccoonMotel.com.
