A country-music legend brings with him nearly three decades' worth of hits when Clint Black takes the stage at Davenport's Rhythm City Casino Resort Event Center, his March 31 concert showcasing the Grammy-winning talents that have made Black a Billboard chart-topper more than 20 times over.
Born in New Jersey but raised in Katy, Texas, Black taught himself to play harmonica before he was 13, and wrote his first song at 14. Released in 1989, the artist's debut Killin' Time found each song on the album penned at least in part by Black – with four of them attributed solely to him – and was an immediate critical and commercial success, reaching number-one on the Billboard Country Albums chart and eventually achieving triple-platinum-selling status. Black's single “A Better Man,” meanwhile, topped Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart in June of 1989, marking the first time in 14 years that a debut single by a male artist hit the number-one spot. In total, five Killin' Time singles reached number one, marking the first time any country artist accomplished this feat, and Black won the Country Music Association's Horizon Award for best newcomer of 1989.
Over the course of his lauded career, Black has released 12 studio albums, eight compliation albums, one EP, and 46 singles, 22 of which went on to top the Billboard charts. To date, he has sold 19 million albums worldwide and wrote or co-wrote every one of his more than three dozen charting hits, including the country smashes “Where Are You Now,” “When My Ship Comes In,” “A Good Run of Bad Luck,” “Summer's Comin',” “Like the Rain,” and “Nothin' But the Taillights.” Beyond earning a Grammy for 1999's “Same Old Train,” Black has been nominated for nine additional Grammys, received five awards from the Academy of Country Music and two from the Country Music Association, and earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
