With 2023 marking the first year of this locally-grown music-scene competition. the finals for the inaugural Quad Cities Karaoke Championship will be held on August 24 at Davenport's Rhythm City Casino Resort Rhythm Room, the event finding nine contestants competing for the title and the chance, for the three top winners, to share $1,500 in cash prizes.

The live singing contest was designed to provide a competitive format for regional talent to share their voices with new audiences, and to also support locally owned small businesses. Nine locally owned bars hosted nine qualifying rounds, and over the course of those evenings, more than 120 singers wound up competing. Host bars reported that the event consistently drew great crowds, pleasing both regular and new customers. This inaugural Quad Cities Karaoke Championship was the original brainchild of Lynn Hunt, co-owner of "The #1 Dive Bar in the USA" The Edge Eatery & Drinkatorium in Rapids City, Illinois, and Chris Pierce, an area business consultant, entrepreneur, and talented singer. Committee members Missy Anderson and Vanessa Whitworth also provided tremendous support and assistance to make the QCKC possible.

Enjoying spots among the contest's nine chosen contenders are: Brittany Calvert of Erie, Illinois; Teresa Canten of Geneseo, Illinois; Tonya Dawes-Gass of Geneseo, Illinois; Valerie Ebenroth of Cordova, Illinois; Alias Holman of Moline, Illinois; Lauren Larson of East Moline, Illinois; Kim Magee of Hampton, Illinois; Donte Nystrom of Davenport, Iowa; and Dylan Rohm of Columbus Junction, Iowa. “Competition has been fierce," said Pierce, "and judges have had to make some hard decisions to advance these final nine contestants. So many others in the competition were eliminated based on very closes scores, however, the exposure has been positive for all that participated this year.”

The inaugural Quad Cities Karaoke Championship will take place in Davenport's Rhythm Room on August 24, admission to the 7 p.m. event is free, and attendance is restricted to patrons ages 21 and older. For more information, visit the event's Facebook page.
