The Quad City Wind Ensemble announces its Spring Concert, "Songs and Dances" to be performed on Sunday, April 29th at 3pm.  The concert will feature the winner of the Dr. Charles B. DCamp Young Performer's Solo Competition, Crystal Mondragon. She is a senior at United Township High School in East Moline and studies flute privately with Lynne Stukart.
Ms. Mondragon will perform "Poem" by Charles Griffes accompanied by the wind ensemble.  In addition, the QCWE will perform a variety of song and dance works from the concert band and wind ensemble repertoire, including works by Leo Delibes, Percy Grainger, Philip Sparke, David Holsinger, Eric Ewazen, Arturo Marquez, and John Philip Sousa. The concert will immediately be followed by a reception with free refreshments and homemade treats!

The Quad City Wind Ensemble, celebrating its 26th concert season, will be holding its Winter Concert on Sunday, February 26, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2363 W. 3rd St. in Davenport, Iowa. The concert will feature Dr. Joan Trapp, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto in C Major, K. 503. Also featured will be Katherine Dalin, mezzo-soprano, singing Bizet's "Habanera" from the opera, Carmen.

Conducted by Brian L. Hughes, the Quad City Wind Ensemble will also perform works by Frank Ticheli, Derek Bourgeois, Richard Strauss, John Philip Sousa and more.

Chicago based Mezzo-Soprano, Katherine Dalin is an active performer throughout the greater Chicagoland and southeast Wisconsin area. She is a member of the American Guild of Musical Artists and the National Association of Teachers of Singing. In addition to performing, during the day Ms. Dalin has the pleasure of being the Executive Director for Elgin Opera. She is honored to be making her Quad City debut with the Quad City Wind Ensemble.

Dr. Joan Trapp, an Iowa native, has been on the faculty of St. Ambrose University for 38 years. She received her MMus from Northwestern University and her DMA from the University of Iowa. In addition to her teaching, she performs regularly in the bi-state region. She has played with the Serenata Trio, the Classique Quintette, Quad City Visiting Artists, the Quad City Mozart Festival, the Quad City Friends of Chamber Music, and Ballet Quad Cities. Dr. Trapp enjoys performing with her colleagues at St. Ambrose, especially as part of the SanTrapp four-hand piano team. She has been soloist in concerto performances with the Quad City Wind Ensemble, the St. Ambrose Symphonic Band, the St. Ambrose Community Symphony Orchestra, and for the 35th anniversary gala of the Friends of Chamber Music.

Admission for the concert is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (65+) and FREE for students up through 12th grade. The Quad City Wind Ensemble is pleased to announce the Twenty-Fourth Annual Young Performer's Solo Competition.  Auditions will be held on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at the Galvin Fine Arts Center, St. Ambrose University, in Davenport. The winner will appear as the guest soloist with the Quad City Wind Ensemble at our concert on April 29 at the Galvin Fine Arts Center. In addition to performing with the Quad City Wind Ensemble, the first place winner will receive a $250 scholarship from the Quad City Wind Ensemble for private study.  The second place winner will receive a $150 scholarship and the third place winner will receive a $100 scholarship for private study. Entrants must be students currently involved in a high school instrumental music program and complete an entry form to be received or postmarked no later than March 9, 2012.

In addition to performing with the Quad City Wind Ensemble, the first place winner will receive a $250 scholarship from the Quad City Wind Ensemble for private study. All entrants must be students currently involved in a high school instrumental music program. The soloist must perform a wind or percussion solo for which a band/wind ensemble accompaniment is readily available. There is no entry fee for this competition. The guest soloist must perform the same piece in the concert as performed during the audition. Previous first place winners must audition on a different piece. All applicants must audition using piano accompaniment and furnish two copies of the solo part for the adjudicators. One of the copies may be a photo-copied reproduction of the original.

The Quad City Wind Ensemble, founded by Charles B. DCamp in 1987, is comprised of some of the Quad City area s top wind and percussion players who audition for membership in this select group. It is recognized as one of the finest adult wind ensembles in the nation.

The QCWE is dedicated to music education in public schools. The Charles B. DCamp Young Performers Solo Competition is one way it supports music education of the QC area s youth. In addition, all participants in school band programs are admitted free to all QCWE performances.

The Quad City Wind Ensemble, celebrating its 26th concert season, will be holding its Fall Concert, "Symphonic Moments", on Sunday, October 23, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. in Allaert Auditorium of the Galvin Fine Arts Center located on the campus of St. Ambrose University, 518 W. Locust St., in Davenport, IA. The concert will feature as soloist, Quad City Symphony Principal Trumpet player, David Greenhoe. The program includes works by Dutch-born Johan de Meij, native French composers Jean-Baptiste Arban and Charles Gounod, Gioachino Rossini, Richard Wagner and others.

Founded in 1987 by Charles B. DCamp, Professor Emeritus from St. Ambrose University, and comprised of 59 of the finest area adult musicians, the Quad City Wind Ensemble is conducted by Brian L. Hughes. Dr. Myron Welch, retired Director of Bands at the University of Iowa, who conducted the group in May of 2010 proclaimed that, "The Quad City Wind Ensemble is the finest adult wind ensemble in the entire state of Iowa and among the best in the nation".
