Lookalikes and Copycats Have State Fair Crowd Seeing Double

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 10, 2019) — Fairgoers and judges saw double (and triple!) at the annual Twins, Triplets and More contest judged Thursday on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage at the 2019 Iowa State Fair. This contest judges twins and triplets of all ages on the most and least alike pairs.

Musicians and Dancers Top Iowa State Fair Talent Search

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 9, 2019) — Five talented Sprout division acts (ages 2-12) and Senior division acts (ages 13-21) have advanced to the semi-final round in Bill Riley's 59th annual Iowa State Fair Talent Search. Each act will perform again on Thursday, August 15, Friday, August 16, or Saturday, August 17.

The names, ages, hometowns and routines of the sprouts acts are:

Brigid Bonner, 11, Denison, Tap Dance Solo

Captain Claims Iowa State Big Boar Title

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 8, 2019) — "Captain," the 3 ½ year old Crossbred bested the competition to claim the Big Boar title at the 2019 Iowa State Fair, weighing 1254 pounds.

The winning entry is owned by Bryan and Tricia Britt of Monticello.

State Center Ram Wins State Fair Big Ram Title

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 8, 2019) — A Shropshire ram named Clark owned by Rueber Shropshires of Marshalltown tipped the scales as 452 pounds to win the Big Ram title at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Second place was claimed by Phil, the Lincoln ram who is owned by Seelow Sheep Farm of State Center. He weighed in at 333 pounds.

The 2019 Iowa State Fair Big Ram show had 7 entries.

DLH Angus Farm Tops Iowa State Fair Super Bull Competition

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 8, 2019) — "DLH Upward 122," the 2,710 pound Angus bull owned by DLH Angus of Indianola, outweighed the competition to win the Super Bull contest judged Thursday at the 2019 Iowa State Fair.

Triple M Farms of Bloomfield took second place with their 2,624 pound Hereford bull, "Domino," and 2GTHR Chianina of Polk City took third place with their 2,526 pound Chianina bull, "Mamma's Boy."

Dancers, Singers, and Musicians Top Iowa State Fair Talent Search

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 8, 2019) — Five talented Sprout division acts (ages 2-12) and six Senior division acts (ages 13-21) have advanced to the semi-final round in Bill Riley's 60th annual Iowa State Fair Talent Search. Each act will perform again on Thursday, August 15; Friday, August 16; or Saturday, August 17.

Annual Parade to Kick-Off 2019 Iowa State Fair

DES MOINES, IOWA (August 7, 2019) — The 2019 Iowa State Fair Parade is the official kick-off to the Iowa State Fair. Roger Miller of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, will serve as the 2019 Parade Marshal and will lead the parade through the streets of downtown Des Moines.

Six Iowa Farm Families Receive 2019 Way We Live Award

DES MOINES, IA (July 11, 2019) — Six Iowa farm families will be recognized as recipients of the 2019 Way We Live Award at the Iowa State Fair. Entry-form nominations included a description of how living on a farm and choosing the farming occupation shaped the nominee's farm family life. These families are examples of farm values derived from hard work and love for farming.
