Quad Cities starter Adrian Houser earns first win since June 2; Kevin Comer saves first win since May 6

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (July 28, 2014) - Brett Phillips hit the first pitch of Monday's game for a home run, A.J. Reed homered for his first Midwest League hit and Chase McDonald hit the deciding home run Monday afternoon to lift the Quad Cities River Bandits to a 4-3 win and three-game series sweep of the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Bowling Green Ballpark.

The River Bandits (20-16 second half, 55-50 overall) completed their first sweep ever of Bowling Green (14-22, 46-59) to finish 5-1 on their six-game road trip to Eastern Division ballparks. Quad Cities won eight of its last nine games to finish with an inter-division record of 13-11 - the River Bandits' first winning inter-division record since 2011.

Phillips gave Quad Cities a 1-0 lead with his 10th home run of the season on the first pitch by Hot Rods left-hander Bruedlin Suero (2-3). It was Phillips' second career leadoff home run and first since April 27 in Peoria. It was Phillips' team-high sixth home run in July.

The Hot Rods took their only lead in the second inning against right-hander Adrian Houser (5-4). With one out. Hot Rods first baseman Alexander Simon singled to left field, left fielder Julian Ridings put a bunt single down the third-base line, and right fielder Darryl George hit a game-tying double to left field. Center fielder Spencer Edwards added a go-ahead RBI single to left field for a 2-1 lead.

Suero kept the 2-1 lead by retiring nine of 10 batters before allowing a one-out single to McDonald in the fourth inning. Reed then drove a 1-1 offering over the right-center field fence for a home run in the second at-bat of his Midwest League debut, giving his team a 3-2 lead.

The Hot Rods tied the game in the next half-inning, as George hit a two-out single and stole second base. Consecutive walks to Edwards and Smedley loaded the bases, and a wild pitch by Houser brought in the tying run. Houser then retired the next four hitters to complete five innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

In a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth inning, McDonald hit a leadoff home run to right-center field off Suero for a 4-3 River Bandits advantage. It was McDonald's fifth home run in his last 13 games, and the River Bandits' sixth in the three-game series. Quad Cities has hit 25 July home runs - the most for the club since hitting 30 in 31 games in May 2012. Suero finished seven innings and was charged with four earned runs on eight hits with one walk and five strikeouts. Left-hander Stone Speer worked around a walk and hits by McDonald and third baseman J.D. Davis - who both had three hits - in two shutout innings.

River Bandits right-hander Kevin Comer began the sixth inning and worked around a double and walk in the sixth inning. The Hot Rods' best scoring threat came in the eighth inning, when Simon and Ridings hit consecutive one-out singles. On a wild pitch, Ridings broke from first base but was caught in a rundown by catcher Brian Holberton. When Simon broke for third base, Ridings reached second base, and Simon eluded a tag, but then broke for home plate with no player covering, until Ronnie Mitchell came in from left field to make the tag along the third-base line to cap a 2-3-5-4-1-7 scoring play for the second out. Comer then set down four in a row to earn his third save.

Quad Cities opens a three-game home series with Clinton (13-23, 43-61) at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Modern Woodmen Park. River Bandits right-hander Andrew Thurman (4-6) is scheduled to face LumberKings right-hander Edwin Diaz (3-6).

HOT-HITTING BANDITS ROUT HOT RODS AGAIN, 9-2; Edison Frias becomes team's first seven-game winner, while Brett Phillips hits his fifth home run in July

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (July 27, 2014) - Third baseman J.D. Davis had his first career four-hit game, center fielder Brett Phillips homered for a second straight day, and right-hander Edison Frias pitched a season-high seven innings in the Quad Cities River Bandits' second straight 9-2 win over the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Bowling Green Ballpark Sunday afternoon.

Davis drove in the game's first run in the second inning on a double down the right-field line that scored River Bandits designated hitter Brian Holberton following the latter's leadoff single. Hot Rods right-hander Jake Faria (6-6) walked right fielder Ronnie Mitchell, and second baseman Dayne Parker sacrificed two runners into scoring position. Catcher Brett Booth singled to right field to score Davis, and when Booth was caught in a rundown on his way to second base, Mitchell scored to put the River Bandits up 3-0.

Frias (7-5) became the first seven-game winner of the season for Quad Cities (19-16 second half, 54-50 overall). But his first two pitches of the game were hit for singles by Hot Rods shortstop Juniel Querecuto and second baseman Kean Wong. Frias escaped trouble by getting a flyout, popup and groundout to begin a stretch in which he retired 12 of 13 batters.

In the top of the third inning, first baseman Chase McDonald hit a two-out double down the left-field line and scored when second baseman Kean Wong mishandled a ground ball by Holberton that got into center field. Davis then hit an infield single to third baseman Ty Young, and Mitchell hit an RBI single to center field for a 5-0 lead. Faria finished the inning but was charged with five runs - three earned - on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts in a season-low three innings.

Bowling Green (14-21, 46-58) reached the scoreboard in the fifth inning. Center fielder Julian Ridings led off with a single to right field, first baseman Alexander Simon doubled to center field, and Querecuto hit a one-out, two-run single to center field. Frias then retired the next eight batters - five on strikeouts - to last seven innings for the first time since Aug. 15, 2012. His eight strikeouts were a season high.

Following Faria, the Hot Rods used right-hander William Gabay for three scoreless innings. Right-hander Luis Cabrera entered with the 5-2 deficit and pitched a scoreless seventh inning. In the eighth, Cabrera allowed consecutive singles by Davis, Mitchell and Parker, who picked up his sixth RBI on the road trip. With two outs, Phillips smashed his ninth home run of the season to right field, bringing in three runs and extending the lead to 9-2. Cabrera was charged with four earned runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout in three innings.

River Bandits left-hander Albert Minnis began the eighth inning with a groundout and allowed two hits in the final two innings but recorded the last five outs on strikeouts to post a new career high. Frias and Minnis combined to strike out 13 batters without a walk.

Back-to-back 9-2 scores gave Quad Cities consecutive wins by the same score for the first time since winning 5-2 Aug. 2, 2013, at home against Peoria, and Aug. 3, 2013, in Cedar Rapids. The River Bandits last had consecutive scores against the same opponent in a pair of 4-3 home losses to Bowling Green July 11-12, 2013. Quad Cities last won consecutive games by the same score against the same opponent Aug. 19-20, 2006, at home and then on the road against Burlington. The 2006 team also won consecutive 5-4 games in Clinton June 26-27.

Quad Cities has won seven of eight games and seeks its first-ever sweep in Bowling Green at 12:05 p.m. Monday. River Bandits right-hander Adrian Houser (4-4) is scheduled to face Hot Rods left-hander Bruedlin Suero (2-2).

BANDITS BLAST HOT RODS TO WIN 9-2 SERIES OPENER; Quad Cities has four-run fifth and sixth innings to pick up sixth win in last seven games

DAYTON, Ohio (July 26, 2014) - Designated hitter Ronnie Mitchell and center fielder Brett Phillips each hit two-run home runs in the Quad Cities River Bandits' go-ahead, four-run fifth inning, and left-hander Blaine Sims held the Bowling Green Hot Rods to two runs in a six-inning start for a 9-2 win at Bowling Green Ballpark Saturday night.

Phillips, Mitchell, and shortstop Thomas Lindauer each drove in two runs, and seven River Bandits contributed a hit and a run to a 13-hit showing and the team's highest scoring effort since July 11. Dayne Parker had a game-high three hits for the first time with Quad Cities.

Sims (2-2) had his longest Midwest League start and overcame seven walks - matching his career high and setting a season high by a pitcher for Quad Cities (18-16 second half, 53-50 overall). He allowed two runs - one earned - on five hits with three strikeouts. In the first inning, his two-out walk to Hot Rods catcher Oscar Hernandez led to a run after a passed ball, wild pitch and single by third baseman Ty Young. Sims picked Young off first base to end the inning and got a ground-ball double play to end a bases-loaded jam in the second.

The Hot Rods (14-20, 46-57) nearly added to the 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, as left fielder Darryl George hit a one-out double to center field, and center fielder Julian Ridings singled to center field. But Phillips threw to catcher Brian Holberton to get George at home plate for his 13th outfield assist of the season - a mark tied for best in the Midwest League.

Hot Rods right-hander D.J. Slaton (0-1) got ground-ball double plays in each of the first two innings to face one batter over the minimum through the first four innings. In the top of the fifth inning, third baseman J.D. Davis hit a leadoff double down the left-field line, and Mitchell drove the next Slaton pitch to the left of the scoreboard in right-center field for his team-high 13th home run and a 2-1 lead. With two outs, Lindauer reached on a fielding error by third baseman Ty Young, and Phillips followed with his eighth home run to almost the exact same spot as Mitchell's home run.

With a 4-1 lead, Sims walked three batters in the bottom of the fifth inning but only allowed one run on a sacrifice fly by catcher Oscar Hernandez. With Sims on the mound, Bowling Green left seven runners on base, including five in scoring position.

In the sixth inning, Slaton began with a 4-2 deficit and began by allowing first baseman Chase McDonald's double to left-center field, Holberton's single to right field and Davis' RBI single to center field. Slaton was lifted with no outs for right-hander Josh Kimborowicz, who got Mitchell to hit into a fielder's choice before second baseman Dayne Parker hit an RBI single, and Lindauer dropped a two-run single in front of George in left field for an 8-2 lead. Slaton was charged with seven runs - five earned - on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts in five innings. Kimborowicz gave up four hits and one earned run with three strikeouts in three relief innings.

Following Sims, right-hander Andrew Walter pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and one walk with three strikeouts to earn his team-high ninth save. Quad Cities added a ninth-inning run when Phillips doubled, reached third base on an error and scored on a groundout by left fielder Marc Wik.

Quad Cities has won six of seven games and continues its series in Bowling Green at 2:05 p.m. Sunday. River Bandits right-hander Edison Frias (6-5) is scheduled to face Hot Rods right-hander Jake Faria (6-5).

Chris Lee wins fourth straight decision, Dayton loses fourth straight game despite outhitting QC, 7-3

DAYTON, Ohio (July 24, 2014) - Dayne Parker hit his first professional home run in the fourth inning, and Marc Wik provided the only two other hits for the Quad Cities River Bandits, but left-hander Chris Lee and right-hander Andrew Thurman made them enough in the team's fifth straight victory - a 4-2 win over the Dayton Dragons in front of 8,368 at Fifth Third Field Thursday night.

In his first start since July 6, Lee (6-5) gave the River Bandits (17-15 second half, 52-49 overall) their sixth straight starting effort of at least five innings, and fourth start in the last five games without allowing an earned run. He retired the first four batters of the game and induced two ground-ball double plays to face just two batters over the minimum in five innigns. He allowed only two batters to reach scoring position - Dragons center fielder Nick Benedetto on a third-inning double, and left fielder Gabriel Rosa on a walk, stolen base and groundout in the fifth inning that put him at third base. Lee allowed three hits and one walk without a strikeout, but he has allowed just one run in 16 innings across his first three second-half starts. He also won his fourth straight positive decision since June 29.

Right-hander Dan Langfield (2-2) was the second straight Dragons starter to strike out all three batters in the first inning. He struck out the first four River Bandits he faced and did not allow a baserunner before issuing a leadoff walk in the third inning to designated hitter Brett Booth. With one out, Parker and center fielder James Ramsay drew consecutive walks to load the bases. Right fielder Brett Phillips struck out, but third baseman J.D. Davis drew a full-count, two-out walk to force in the game's first run. Left fielder Ronnie Mitchell struck out to end the inning, but the River Bandits had a 1-0 lead without the help of a hit.

In the fourth inning, first baseman Chase McDonald drew a leadoff walk, and Wik hit a two-out single to right field - his team's first hit - to put runners at first and third bases. Parker then swatted the next pitch over the left-field fence - a three-run home run that gave him a career-high three RBIs and his first home run in 15 professional games. Langfield was charged with all four earned runs on two hits and five walks with seven strikeouts in the first four innings.

Beginning with the fifth inning, three Dragons relievers - right-handers Radhames Quezada, Nick Howard and Pedro Diaz - combined to allow just three baserunners, including Wik's second single to left field. The Dayton bullpen combined for one walk and one strikeout.

Thurman began the sixth inning with a 4-0 lead. Dragons shortstop Carlton Daal hit a one-out double down the left-field line and scored on designated hitter Jonathan Reynoso's RBI single to center field for the first Dayton run in 12 innings against the River Bandits. In the seventh inning, third baseman Avain Rachal drew a leadoff walk, stole second base, went to third base on a flyout, and scored on Benedetto's RBI double to the left-field corner, cutting the visitors' lead to 4-2.

Facing the tying run at the plate, Thurman struck out second baseman Ronald Bueno to end the seventh inning and retired six in a row before Rosa's two-out single in the ninth. But first baseman Robert Ramirez grounded back to Thurman for the final out. Thurman allowed two earned runs on four hits with one walk and three strikeouts for his second career save and first in the Midwest League. Dayton (14-18, 50-50) lost its fourth straight game despite outhitting Quad Cities, 7-3.

Quad Cities seeks to match its season-high six-game winning streak and earn its first sweep in Dayton since July 24-26, 2010 at 6:07 p.m. Central on Friday. River Bandits right-hander Jandel Gustave (5-5) is scheduled to face Dragons right-hander Nick Travieso (8-5).

Quad Cities overcomes four errors and 3-0 deficit to take series opener in Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio (July 23, 2014) - Trailing 3-0 through three innings Wednesday night, the Quad Cities River Bandits rallied for six unanswered runs, using consecutive two-run doubles by Ronnie Mitchell and Chase McDonald in a four-run eighth inning for a 6-3 win over the Dayton Dragons in front of 8,216 at Fifth Third Field.

Despite a game that saw intermittent rain showers and the visitors commit four errors in their first visit to Dayton as an Astros affiliate, Quad Cities (16-15 second half, 51-49 overall) achieved a four-game winning streak for the first time in the second half. Dayton (14-17, 50-49) lost its third straight despite playing in front of its North American professional sports record 1,031st consecutive home sellout.

One streak did end to help the Dragons take their lead in the second inning against right-hander Kevin Comer. River Bandits center fielder James Ramsay had not committed an error in his first 154 professional games, but a second-inning single by Dragons designated hitter Avain Rachal took a short hop through Ramsay's legs, allowing left fielder Phillip Ervin to score the game's first run from first base and Rachal to reach second base. It was the first error in 87 games and 159 fielding chances for Ramsay this season and the first in 293 chances in his career. Rachal later stole third base and scored when catcher Brian Holberton overthrew third base.

The Dragons' lead grew in the third inning, when second baseman Jamodrick McGruder drew a leadoff walk, stole second base and went to third base on Holberton's throw into center field, and scored on the first of Comer's two wild pitches. Comer recovered to scatter three hits without allowing a run in the rest of his five-inning start. Comer was charged with three runs - two earned - on six hits and one walk with a career-high eight strikeouts, including striking out the side in the fifth inning.

Dragons right-hander Sal Romano struck out all three batters in the first inning and kept Quad Cities to one hit through the first three innings. In the fourth inning, right fielder Brett Phillips lined a leadoff double over third baseman Ronald Bueno and went to third base on McDonald's two-out infield single. Holberton drew a walk to load the bases. Second baseman Marc Wik then grounded a ball to McGruder, whose throw pulled first baseman Robert Ramirez off the base, continuing the inning and allowing Phillips to score. Left fielder Jose Fernandez then hit an RBI single to left field. Romano escaped the inning and kept the 3-2 lead through five innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

Left-hander Albert Minnis (2-1) followed Comer with three shutout innings, working around two eighth-inning hits. It gave Quad Cities a chance to take the lead against left-hander Joel Bender (4-2). After facing the minimum through his first two innings after Romano, Bender hit Ramsay with a pitch to lead off the eighth inning. Philllips put down a bunt single, and third baseman J.D. Davis singled to left-center field. With the bases loaded Mitchell doubled off the right-field wall, scoring two runs for a 4-3 lead. With runners at second and third bases, McDonald doubled off the center-field wall but was thrown out at third base.

The 6-3 lead was enough for right-hander Tyler Brunnemann to earn his third save with a perfect ninth inning. The win was the first for the River Bandits this season in 11 games in which they have committed at least three errors.

Quad Cities continues its series in Dayton at 6 p.m. Central on Thursday. River Bandits left-hander Chris Lee (5-5) is scheduled to face Dragons right-hander Dan Langfield (2-1).

River Bandits lose 2-0 lead but recover for three-game sweep of Captains

DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 21, 2014) - Quad Cities first baseman Chase McDonald hit a three-run, walk-off home run in the 10th inning off Lake County right-hander Alexis Paredes to give the River Bandits a 5-2 victory and their first-ever series sweep of the Captains in front of 3,186 at Modern Woodmen Park Monday afternoon.

Quad Cities (15-15 second half, 50-49 overall) achieved its first three-game winning streak since July 3 to complete its first sweep of an opponent in a season series since sweeping West Michigan in three games May 31-June 2, 2011. Neither Quad Cities nor Lake County (15-15, 42-58) had swept one another in the first four years of their annual three-game interdivision series.

A third straight River Bandits starter did not allow an earned run. Right-hander Adrian Houser worked around a pair of one-out walks in the first inning, in part thanks to a diving catch by center fielder James Ramsay on a line drive by Captains first baseman Nellie Rodriguez.

Quad Cities scored first for a third straight game in the second inning, when right-hander Caleb Hamrick walked designated hitter Ronnie Mitchell. After Mitchell stole second base, left fielder Jose Fernandez drove an RBI triple to right-center field scoring Mitchell for a 1-0 lead. Second baseman Marc Wik lined the next pitch to right-center field to score Fernandez for a 2-0 lead. Houser allowed a Lake County run in the third inning. Second baseman Claudio Bautista singled to left field, and right fielder Mike Papi hit a two-out fly ball toward left field, which Fernandez dropped for an error that allowed Bautista to score, cutting the lead to 2-1.

Houser worked around a double in the fourth inning, a single in the fifth inning, and a walk and hit batter in the sixth inning. He allowed one unearned run on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts in his fourth six-inning start of the season. Right-hander Frederick Tiburcio relieved him for the seventh inning and allowed a leadoff walk before stranding the tying run at third base to end the inning.

For the Captains, Hamrick allowed two earned runs on five hits and three walks with six strikeouts in five innings. Right-hander Jimmy Stokes struck out five batters in two scoreless innings, and right-hander Trevor Frank struck out one in two hitless innings.

River Bandits right-hander Andrew Walter (4-2) worked a perfect eighth inning. In the ninth, he allowed a leadoff single by left fielder Dorssys Paulino, who went to second base on a passed ball and to third base on third baseman Paul Hendrix's single. Walter struck out designated hitter Brian Ruiz before shortstop Ivan Castillo hit a slow ground ball that scored Paulino when shortstop Thomas Lindauer threw out Castillo at first base. Walter struck out Bautista with the go-ahead run at second base to keep the 2-2 tie. In the 10th inning, Walter allowed a one-out walk and two-out single but struck out two batters to match a career high with five strikeouts in three innings.

In the bottom of the 10th inning, Paredes entered to allow a single by third baseman J.D. Davis, who had his second straight two-hit game. Mitchell hit a fly ball that Paulino overran in left field for an error putting runners at second and third bases. McDonald then hit an 0-1 pitch for a towering fly ball to left field that dropped over the fence for his first career walk-off home run and ninth of the season.

Quad Cities begins a six-game road trip to Eastern Division ballparks at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio. River Bandits right-hander Kevin Comer (1-2) is scheduled to start the three-game series opener in the team's first visit to Fifth Third Field as an Astros affiliate.

Within an inning of pitching consecutive shutouts, Quad Cities holds off Lake County for 2-1 win

DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 20, 2014) - Quad Cities River Bandits right-hander Edison Frias and left-hander Blaine Sims combined to shut out the Lake County Captains until the ninth inning Sunday, and left fielder Ronnie Mitchell threw out the potential game-tying run at home plate for the final out of a 2-1 win in front of 5,758 at Modern Woodmen Park.

Frias (6-5) gave the River Bandits (14-15 second half, 49-49 overall) their second straight shutout start, as he went five scoreless innings for the third time this season. After a perfect first inning, he began the second inning by allowing consecutive singles to first baseman Nellie Rodriguez and second baseman Paul Hendrix before getting left fielder Dorssys Paulino to ground into a double play. A strikeout  ended the inning, which was only one in which Lake County (15-14, 42-57) put a runner at third base before the ninth inning.

In the third inning, Frias allowed a two-out single by shortstop Ivan Castillo - the last Captains hit until the ninth inning - and a walk to center fielder Clint Frazier. But right fielder Mike Papi flied out to left field in his team's last at-bat with a runner in scoring position until the ninth inning. After a fourth-inning leadoff walk by Rodriguez, Frias retired the last six batters he faced. He allowed three hits and two walks with three strikeouts in his longest start and first win since June 27 in Peoria.

Captains right-hander Jordan Milbrath (3-10) kept the game scoreless through three innings. He stranded the bases loaded in the first inning. In the fourth inning, first baseman Chase McDonald hit a leadoff single to center field, and catcher Brian Holberton singled down the first-base line to move McDonald to third base. After second baseman Marc Wik popped out, designated hitter Jake Rodriguez put down his first Midwest League sacrifice bunt down the first-base line to score McDonald.

In the fifth inning, Milbrath allowed consecutive two-out doubles by third baseman J.D. Davis and Mitchell for a 2-0 River Bandits lead. Milbrath allowed two earned runs on six hits and three walks with one strikeout in 5 1/3 innings. Left-hander Wander Beras followed with 1 2/3 scoreless innings, and right-hander Carlos Melo struck out all three batters in the eighth inning to keep his team's deficit at 2-0.

Following Frias, Sims set down seven batters in a row, before designated hitter Brian Ruiz hit a one-out single in the eighth inning to snap a string of 13 Captains retired in order. But Sims picked Ruiz off first base and got a popout to end the inning.

With a 2-0 lead in the ninth inning, Sims issued one-out walks to Papi and Rodriguez to put the tying runs on base. Hendrix then grounded a ball to shortstop Thomas Lindauer, who threw to Wik for a forceout at second base. Wik's errant throw past first base allowed Papi to score the first run against Quad Cities in 17 2/3 innings, and it put Hendrix at second base as the tying run with two outs. Paulino then grounded a single to left field, and with Hendrix running toward home plate, Mitchell threw a one-hopper to Holberton, who tagged Hendrix to end the game. Sims earned his first save since Aug. 29, 2012, by allowing one earned run on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts in four innings. Quad Cities has won consecutive games for the first time since a July 6 home doubleheader sweep of Wisconsin.

In Monday's 1 p.m. series finale, Quad Cities seeks the first-ever season series sweep in the fifth year of the all-time series with Lake County. River Bandits right-hander Adrian Houser (4-4) is scheduled to face Captains right-hander Caleb Hamrick (3-5).

The Bandit Scholars Program was founded in 2009 by the Quad Cities River Bandits' team owners Dave Heller and Bob Herrfeldt; the program pays the entire first year of college tuition for Quad Cities area students through the Keith Lucier Memorial Scholarship and the Bandit Scholarship. The Keith Lucier Memorial Scholarship is named in honor of the late Keith Lucier, who passed away in 2009. The Bandit Scholars Program and, in particular, the Lucier Scholarship, honors Keith's strong belief in higher education and celebrates his love for sports, learning, charitable endeavors and the greater Quad Cities community. Lucier graduated from Bettendorf High School and the University of Iowa. He was the River Bandits' Assistant General Manager in 2008.

The scholarships are administered by the non-profit Community Foundation of the Great River Bend, and recipients are selected by a committee made up of Lucier's family, friends, River Bandits' staff, CFGRB volunteers and area community leaders. Awarded annually to Quad Cities area high school seniors, each scholarship includes a summer internship with the River Bandits following the winner's first year of college. Tax-free donations to the scholarship fund can be made through the CFGRB web site.

The scholarships are funded by fan donations and fund-raising efforts by the River Bandits and the team's ownership. Fundraising events include the annual Frost Fest, Bandits Race to Home 5K and Bandit Scholars Home Run Derby, set for July 26-27 this season. Through the partnership with the Community Foundation of the Great River Bend, donors can make online, tax-deductible donations to the Bandit Scholars Program by going to www.cfgrb.org. Fans can also visit the Bandit Scholars Program page on the team's website, www.riverbandits.com, and follow a link to the Bandit Scholars page on the Foundation's website. Beginning with the next scholarship application cycle in 2015, students from eight Quad Cities-area counties - Henry, Mercer, Rock Island and Whiteside Counties of Illinois, and Cedar, Louisa, Muscatine and Scott Counties of Iowa - will be eligible for the scholarships.

Chase McDonald homers in fifth straight multi-hit game for Quad Cities, which loses, 7-4

DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 17, 2014) - The Fort Wayne TinCaps became the first visiting team to hit three home runs in a game at Modern Woodmen Park this season, as catcher Adolfo Reina homered twice, and right fielder Franmil Reyes added another in a 7-4 TinCaps win over the Quad Cities River Bandits, who dropped a season-high fifth straight game in front of 5,376 Thursday night.

For a fifth straight game, Quad Cities saw its opponent take at least a five-run lead against its starting pitcher. Right-hander Andrew Thurman allowed a game-opening triple by shortstop Trea Turner down the left-field line, and designated hitter Dustin Peterson hit a sacrifice fly to left-field for his league lead-tying 70th RBI, giving Fort Wayne (9-17 second half, 39-56 overall) a 1-0 lead.

On Thurman's first pitch of the second inning, Reina hit his first home run to left field, where it reached a leg of the Ferris wheel on one bounce. In the third inning, Turner had a bunt single, Peterson reached on an error by third baseman J.D. Davis, and with one out, Reyes launched his eighth home run of the season to left-center field for a 5-0 TinCaps lead. Thurman allowed two home runs in a game for the first time in his career and was charged with four earned runs on six hits and a walk with three strikeouts in four innings, matching the longest any River Bandits starter has pitched in the previous four games.

TinCaps right-hander Jimmi Brasoban (1-4) worked around a hit and walk to face the minimum through the first three innings. In the fourth inning, River Bandits right fielder Brett Phillips led off with his second single to right field, and left fielder Marc Wik bounced a ground ball off the glove of first baseman Jake Bauers to put runners at first and third bases. With one out and Wik running from first base, designated hitter Ronnie Mitchell hit an RBI single through the vacated shortstop hole, and first baseman Chase McDonald followed with a single to left field. With two outs, second baseman Jose Fernandez lined a single to left-center field, cutting the deficit to 5-3. Brasoban retired the next four batters to match his season high of five innings, allowing one earned run on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

After extending his season-high seven-game hitting streak, McDonald hit a two-out, solo home run - his seventh of the season - off the center-field batter's eye to make it 5-4 against right-hander Josh Richardson. Richardson set down four straight to finish two relief innings.

River Bandits left-hander Chris Lee kept the deficit to one run through the seventh inning, as he allowed one hit and two walks with one strikeout in three relief innings. Right-hander Frederick Tiburcio started the eighth inning, and Reina smacked his first pitch out to left-center field for his second home run - and the first by any batter against Tiburcio since Aug. 13, 2013. Center fielder Ronnie Richardson doubled to right-center field, moved to second base on left fielder Nick Schulze's single and scored when second baseman Rey Bruguera reached on a roller misplayed by Holberton on the first-base line, allowing Fort Wayne a 7-4 lead. A walk loaded the bases before Tiburcio got a popup for the first out, but left-hander Albert Minnis entered to get two ground-ball outs and work 1 2/3 scoreless relief innings.

TinCaps right-hander Ryan Butler pitched the final two innings to earn his first save. He got help from the TinCaps third double play of the night in the eighth inning. Quad Cities brought the tying run to bat in the ninth, but pinch hitter Brett Booth grounded into a fielder's choice.

Quad Cities (12-13, 47-48) has its first five-game losing streak since Aug. 12-17, 2013, and seeks to snap it in Friday's 7 p.m. series finale with Fort Wayne. River Bandits right-hander Jandel Gustave (5-4) is scheduled to face TinCaps right-hander Cody Hebner (0-1).

UP NEXT: Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Friday with a Pint Glass Giveaway presented by the Illinois Farm Bureau for the first 1,000 fans on Agriculture Night. The 7 p.m. game will be followed by Friday Fireworks, presented by Smart Toyota of the Quad Cities, WLLR and WQAD. Tickets are available at www.riverbandits.com. Fort Wayne wins, 9-2, to send Quad Cities to fourth straight loss for first time in the second half

DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 16, 2014) - Dustin Peterson singled home the first of four first-inning runs for Fort Wayne Wednesday night, and the third baseman added a home run as one of five TinCaps to collect multi-hit games in the visitors' 9-2 victory over the Quad Cities River Bandits in front of a season-high 7,140 at Modern Woodmen Park.

TinCaps shortstop Trea Tuner began his two-hit night by leading off the game with a double down the right-field line against right-hander Adrian Houser (4-4). Peterson followed with a single to center field and went to second base on a single by first baseman Fernando Perez, who also had two hits in the game. Right fielder Franmil Reyes grounded out to third base for the game's first out, and designated hitter Jake Bauers singled through the right side to drive in Peterson. Catcher Ryan Miller then doubled to left field, scoring Perez for a 3-0 lead, but a relay by left fielder Marc Wik and shortstop Thomas Lindauer to catcher Brian Holberton caught Bauers at home plate for the second out. Center fielder Ronnie Richardson doubled in Miller for a 4-0 TinCaps lead in a six-hit, eight-batter inning.

Left-hander Max Fried set down the first four batters in his Midwest League season debut for Fort Wayne (8-17 second half, 38-56 overall). He allowed back-to-back singles by River Bandits first baseman Chase McDonald and catcher Brian Holberton but got second baseman Jose Fernandez to line to second baseman Josh VanMeter for an inning-ending double play.

Houser did not allow a hit in the second or third innings, but in the fourth inning, he walked the first two batters - Richardson and left fielder Henry Charles. After a strikeout, Turner drove an RBI double to left field, ending Houser's day after allowing seven hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings. Houser became the fourth straight Quad Cities starter to last no more than four innings and give up at least six runs when Peterson hit a sacrifice fly against right-hander Aaron Vaughn to extend the TinCaps lead to 6-0.

Quad Cities (12-13, 47-47) reached the scoreboard in the fourth inning, when Wik hit a leadoff double and scored when third baseman J.D. Davis doubled to left-center field for the only hit of his Midwest League debut. Designated hitter Ronnie Mitchell walked, but McDonald lined to Turner for a double play. Holberton singled to put runners at first and second bases with two outs, and Fried was removed after allowing one earned run on five hits and a walk with one strikeout in 3 2/3 innings. Left-hander Payton Baskette (4-4) entered to get Fernandez to fly out to center field. Baskette scattered three hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings, getting help from the TinCaps' third double play, into which Holberton hit after Mitchell doubled and McDonald singled to start the sixth inning.

The score remained 6-1 as Vaughn retired all five batters he faced in his Midwest League debut. River Bandits right-hander Kevin Comer then retired five straight before Perez hit a two-out single in the seventh inning, and Reyes reached on an error by Lindauer. Bauers and Miller hit consecutive RBI singles to extend their team's lead to 8-1. The River Bandits managed another run in the eighth inning off right-hander Jorge Guzman, as McDonald walked with two outs and scored on Holberton's RBI double. Peterson answered with a one-out home run in the ninth inning to restore the seven-run lead against Comer, who was charged with three runs - one earned - on four hits with a season-high five strikeouts in three innings.

Quad Cities seeks to snap its four-game losing streak - its longest of the second half - at 7 p.m. Thursday against Fort Wayne. River Bandits right-hander Andrew Thurman (5-5) is scheduled to face TinCaps right-hander Jimmi Brasoban (0-4).
