The Moline Foundation has a new grant opportunity through a fund called Karen's Summertime FUNd in honor of Karen Getz. Through the Karen's Summertime FUNd, The Moline Foundation is offering mini-grants between $300 and $1,000. The object of this special opportunity is to provide non-profit organizations extra funds to develop creative, educational, and fun-filled activities for kids during the summer months. Non-profit organizations are encouraged to apply if they serve the citizens of Moline and the surrounding region, including the Quad Cities.

Karen's Summertime FUNd grants are made possible by Tom Getz, the Getz family and friends and many generous donors to The Moline Foundation. In establishing Karen's Summertime FUNd program, the Moline Foundation honors the life of a woman who gave to so many others. This special program will help us remember the many ways Karen Getz reached out to children with her sparkling personality and tireless spirit.

Native born German woman to give talk at the German American Heritage Center.

Instructor: German born and raised, Anette Isaacs did her graduate work at Emory University, Georgia, the University of Vienna and at the Free University in Berlin. Bettendorf, Iowa (April 14, 2009) - Quad Cities Leadership Alumni United would like to announce the opening of the grant application process for 2009. QCLAU will provide up to $1000 Quality of Life grants for programs or projects in Rock Island or Scott counties that support the group's mission: Quad Cities Leadership Alumni United will work to improve life in the Quad Cities by eliminating barriers and providing access. This year's focus will be on programs that support education or employment readiness.

The Quad Cities Leadership Alumni United is made up of graduates from local leadership programs in both Iowa and Illinois.

The three grant recipients from 2008 included: $750 to Boys/Girls Club of Mississippi Valley for Power Hour, $750 to Transitions Mental Health Rehabilitation for Youth Education & Employment Readiness Project, and $500 to Rock Island County 4-H Extension for QC Teen Reality World.

Proposals for the 2009 granting cycle will be accepted between April 1 and June 1. Application packets may be requested by emailing qcleadership@gmail.com. Checks will be awarded at the organization's September 10th fall event - "A Night at the Ballpark" - at Modern Woodmen Park.

Applicants must have 501(c)3 or non-profit status.

(Cedar Falls) - Savor the flavor of wines from around the world as Iowa Public Radio presents the 24th annual "An Evening in Celebration of Wine & Tulips" in partnership with the Friends of KUNI/KHKE. This year's celebration will take place on Saturday, May 9 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Park Place Event Centre in Cedar Falls.

Wine enthusiasts and discriminating palates alike - from all over Iowa and beyond - have enjoyed this premier wine event. Good wine, good food and good friends, as well as the ambience of classical and jazz music, make this a very popular and enjoyable experience.

More than two hundred domestic and imported wines are expected to be available for sampling during our celebration, including some unique and lesser known wines from our very own vineyards in Iowa. Reds, whites, blushes, dessert and sparkling wines will be well-represented. Wines from the vineyards of California, Washington, Italy, France, Australia, and Spain are also among those expected to be poured. Also available for sampling is a variety of Midwestern cheeses, plus breads and fruits to cleanse the palate.

MONTICELLO, IA - The Camp Courageous Spring Antique Market Show will be held this Sunday, April 5th at the Berndes Center at the fairgrounds in Monticello. Doors will be open from 9:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Dealers and exhibitors from around the Midwest, many of whom have always been a part of this event, will be displaying their quality antiques and country collectibles. Food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the day. This show is offered twice a year in the spring and the fall.

Cindy and Pete Hall established the Antique Market Show as a family venture in 2000. As stated by Cindy, "It was time for a change. Camp Courageous of Iowa was offered this venture because more people would benefit. This is an established show with great dealers! The German American Heritage Center, announced the appointment of Angela Hunt as the Center's new director. Ms. Hunt began her position March 16, 2009. She succeeds John Blong, who retired as acting director after five years of service to the Center.

Ms. Hunt is a resident of Bettendorf, Iowa and has lived in the Quad Cities area since 2000. She has worked at Niabi Zoo, Girl Scouts, Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House in the areas of program management, volunteer coordination, fundraising, marketing and public relations. Ms. Hunt also has also worked as a nonprofit consultant. Ms. Hunt has worked on projects as a volunteer for area organizations including the Bistate Literacy Council, The Garden Growers, Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging, Directors of Volunteers in Agencies, and the United Way. She serves as Communications Director for Public Relations Network of the Quad Cities board.

"I am absolutely thrilled to join the German American Heritage Center (GAHC) team especially at this time when the museum is undergoing new and exciting expansions of the exhibits and outreach, " said Ms. Hunt.

As director of the German American Heritage Center, Ms. Hunt will be responsible for directing staff, volunteers, programs, fund raising and the yearly operations.

MONTICELLO - Thanks to the generosity of the Monticello Pizza Ranch owners, Brad and Shirley Davis, Camp Courageous will be receiving half of the gross receipts from the Monticello Pizza Ranch on Saturday March 21st.  For example, if a customer purchased $20 in pizza and pop, $10 goes to camp.  The benefit applies to dine-in, carry-out, and delivery; but it does not apply to gift certificates.

This annual event has become a "win-win" situation for the customers of Pizza Ranch.  The customer enjoys a wonderful meal and at the same time half of everything they spend at the Monticello Pizza Ranch will go to benefit over 5,000 special needs campers that are served at Camp Courageous each year.  Pizza Ranch is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.  They will be featuring their wonderful buffet from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Camp Courageous' board members, staff, and volunteers will be providing extra assistance during this special day.
