This Week in Downtown Davenport: 7/18 - 7/23

The Freight House Farmer's Market returns to it's normal spot this Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Freight House Building and Lot. Round up the family, even the dogs, and come on down for fresh, local goods. Make your way to the Quad Cities Food Hub to educate yourself on edible landscaping or learn how to make probiotics on only $5 a month!

 

 If you're looking for ways to enhance your artistic abilities, check out classes offered by Atom Studio + Gallery over in Bucktown Center for the Arts. Work on creating beautiful landscapes during their Landscape 2 class tonight, or introduce yourself to the art of painting your own wine glass on Saturday during their Painted Wine Glasses class.

 

 Mother Nature has been rather kind to us this week, so take advantage of this beautiful weather and head out to Modern Woodmen Park to cheer on the River Bandits. Tonight features Half-Price Night along with a hat giveaway to the first 3,000 fans. Saturday's game celebrates Christmas in July, so pull out that ugly sweater or Santa hat for $1 off your ticket.

 


Wind down your busy week at River Music Experience tomorrow during this week's Friday Live at 5 featuring Who Cares? sponsored by Swiss Valley Farms. Afterward, Six to the Chest, The Continuance, and Dynoride take over RME Hall for a night of energetic power rock and metal jams. On Saturday, support the Rock Campers at their Rock Camp USA Concert. Be sure to hop over early for some good seats!

 

 The 43rd Annual Street Fest is right around the corner! Come on down to Second Street next Friday and Saturday for a variety of vendors, live music, firefighter water fights, and fun! Keep in mind the Quad-City Times Bix 7 Sports and Fitness Expo is next Thursday at the RiverCenter, too.

Incubus fans are in for a treat this weekend when bass guitarist Ben Kenney performs in the Redstone Room at River Music Experience! Make your way to this Friday's Live at Five featuring the Franti Project sponsored by Living Lands & Waters and stick around to see his performance afterward. Until then, enjoy a performance of unique, eclectic folk/rock tunes by the Oh Hellos tonight!

 Connect with hundreds of anime fans this weekend at the RiverCenter during Anime-zing! This annual three-day festival features autograph sessions, panels, workshops, concerts, and much, much more. On Sunday, the Adler Theatre hosts the rock-driven Newsboys as a part of the FAMiLY LEADER if 7:14 Call event. Tickets are complimentary and available from the FAMiLY LEADER.

 Gather up the family and head to the Figge Art Museum this Saturday for Family Day. Explore the amazing displays of art, fiber, and more all for FREE! Here's a chance to peruse a new exhibit opening that same day- Two Americans in Paris: Stuart Davis and Grant Wood. This Week in Downtown Davenport: 7/3 - 7/9

Although Red, White & Boom is cancelled due to flooding, there are plenty of other ways to get your fireworks fix around the Quad Cities this Fourth of July weekend. Browse the list of places to go for fireworks shows provided by the Quad City Times here. That said, downtown Davenport is OPEN FOR BUSINESS thanks to the incredible flood-fighting protection from the City of Davenport Public Works crews!  Plan to visit downtown this weekend!

 

 The Mississippi Valley Blues Festival kicks off today on Second Street between Brady and Ripley Streets. Additional workshops will be held in the River Music Experience, too. Please note that the Redstone Parking Ramp will be open and accessible via temporary 2-way traffic on Brady Street. With live music, free workshops, BlueSKool, a photo exhibit, and more, a busy and fun weekend lies ahead! Come on out and show your love for blues in the QC.

 

 The time has come for the return of G. Love & Special Sauce to Downtown Davenport! Tonight, River Music Experience hosts the hip-hop/blues crew in the Redstone Room. Sample RME and Great River Berwery's new brew, Vintage Blonde, during their Sneak Peek Tasting before tonight's show. Great River Brewery will host the Vintage Blonde Official Tapping Party on Saturday. A portion of the proceeds from this beer will help support RME music educational programming!  Make note that RME will remain open July 4th and 5th for MVBS events.

 

 Crews have been hard at working putting up a temporary ramp leading to Modern Woodmen Park so the Quad Cities River Bandits can play ball! Bring the family out tomorrow night for Fourth of July Fireworks, an amazing view of the river,  and to cheer on the River Bandits as they face the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. Head back Saturday for Fan Appreciation day and Sunday for pregame autographs, bark in the park, and a Hy-Vee tote bag giveaway.

 

 The rising river doesn't keep fresh goods from coming downtown. The Farmer's Market will be open this weekend on 4th Street at the Scott County Office between Western and Gains. Although the Farmer's Market is moving for the weekend, remember that Quad Cities Food Hub, Front Street Brewery, the Front Street Tap Room, and the rest of the businesses downtown are all still open and accessible.   Fresh Deli by Nostalgia Farms will be closed for the holiday, but back open on July 5th.

Though the river is still at flood stage, revised plans are moving forward for the Mississippi Valley Blues Festival!  Blues Fest will be moving to accommodate for the high water. Stay tuned to our Facebook page for more details as they are announced. Similarly, an announcement regarding revised plans for Red White & Boom will be coming no later than early next week.

 

 Quite a mix of things await you this weekend at River Music Experience! Sing your heart out solo or with a friend or two tonight during Falbos Karaoke Night. Let Modern Mythology do the singing tomorrow night at Friday Live at 5. On Saturday, find your rhythm and beat by participating in the monthly Community Drum Circle. Keep in mind G. Love & Special Sauce perform in the Redstone Room next Thursday, and RME is closed Friday for 4th of July.

 

 Venture outside and enjoy the summer weather by starting your Saturday off at the Freight House Farmer's Market. Find tons of unique, local treats, veggies, crafts, herbs, and more all in one spot. Have the kids bring a white t-shirt to decorate on Saturday with red and blue paint for a fireworks theme. The QC Food Hub will also host a Composting 101 class for all of those gardeners out there!

Let the weekend of celebration begin! MarchFourth Marching Band kicks off River Music Experience's 10 Year Anniversary Celebration with an outdoor concert tonight for FREE! Tomorrow, start your weekend off with Friday Live at 5 featuring The Candymakers, and stick around until the 6th Annual BeeRME for Music at 7 p.m. On Saturday, the fun starts early with Junk Percussion and Drum Circle with Living Lands & Waters & Terry Hansen at 10:30 a.m., and carries on until a rockin' performance by David Mayfield Parade with special guest Lissie Saturday night! Wind down the weekend on Sunday with Third Sunday Jazz and a performace by Willie Pickens Trio. Happy 10 years, RME!

 Get in on the action along the Mississippi river this weekend with Rally on the River QC. With events ranging from bike rodeo to stunt shows, this is one rally you won't want to miss. If you prefer to pedal your own wheels, don't miss out on the 30th Annual Ride the River Sunday. A Father's Day tradition in the QC, this event celebrates the beauty of the riverfront trails.

 Juneteenth continues on this week with events leading up to the all-day festival Saturday. Hear from various local and surrounding choirs tomorrow night during Gospel in the Park with a headlining performance by BET's Sundays Best runner-up, Alexis Spight. Bring the family out Saturday for the Family Festival featuring a classic car show, bounce houses, a peach cobbler eating contest, and much more.

 Dads, spend some time downtown this weekend to celebrate Father's Day! Start Saturday at the Freight House Farmer's Market for Dads and Kids Day plus the Children's Festival featuring a bouncy house, balloon man, and much more. On Sunday, head to Modern Woodmen Park and cheer the River Bandits on to a win, then stick around for post-game catch with your kids.

 Did you know it is Iowa Museum Week? Celebrate by checking out the many offerings and exhibitions over at the Figge Art Museum or the German American Heritage Center. On Saturday, the Figge opens a new exhibition, Thunderstorm, and on Sunday, GAHC offers FREE admission for Dads in honor of Father's Day.

 Follow step-by-step instructions while creating your own piece of art in a relaxed environment at Re-Cre8 Studios now open in the Mississippi Plaza!  Spend a night releasing your creative side with a drink and some friends. Create a "Sand and Art" painting tomorrow, a "Whimsical Dandelion" painting Tuesday, or a painting of "Patriotic Flip Flops" on Wednesday. Like them on Facebook to browse their class schedule.

 Celebrate local and natural foods, health and fitness, community groups and environmental stewardship Saturday at the 8th Annual Healthy Living Fair. Presented by Radish Magazine, this fair includes fitness demonstrations throughout the day, a Pet of the Year contest, music, and a multitude of vendors offering healthy goods and services. This Week in Downtown Davenport: 6/5 - 6/11

Have you heard the news? Downtown Davenport had a banner year for economic development!  $24M in projects were completed this year, and a jaw-dropping $120M will be invested over the next two years via 14 projects.  300+ market-rate apartments are in the works, too.      Downtown is entering an unprecedented phase of growth, and we couldn't be more excited.  From City Square to Union Arcade, huge projects are underway.  The best is yet to come; we love our city!

 

Let the summer fun begin tomorrow when River Music Experience's Friday Live at 5 returns. Presented by Budlight & 7G Distributing, this Friday's summer concert series features Soul Storm sponsored by The Sedona Group. Stick around for a phenominal Friends of RME Appreciation Show with Caroline Rose! On Saturday, check out Iowa's signature alt-rock-country band, The Nadas, when they perform in the Redstone Room, and get your punk/indie fix on Tuesday with The Menzingers. And remember, RME celebrates their 10 Year Anniversary next week!

 

From fireworks and interactive arts to summer treats, celebrate the diversity of the Quad Cities at this weekend's QC Pridefest. If you're looking for a source of outrageous fun, this street fair is perfect for you. Juneteenth festivities also start this weekend with Alpha Phi Alpha's VIP White Party Extravaganza at the RiverCenter Saturday, fellowship and worship on Sunday, a community forum Monday, and a handful of events throughout the week.

 

Bacon lovers, unite! If you love bacon and having fun, you won't want to miss Bacon Bonanza at the RiverCenter Saturday.  This casual indoor/outdoor fundraiser features bacon-centered food samples, informational booths all about bacon, live music, and bacon-centered merchandise! To top it all off, the proceeds go to Churches United of the QC Area.

 

The River Bandits take on the Peoria Chiefs this weekend, and each game is paired with a handful of promotions to enjoy! Saturday's game gives thanks to the fans with balloon animals, face painting, and drink specials during Fan Appreciation Saturday. On Sunday, bring the pooch along for their Bark in the Park promotion. And as always, Monday features $2 bleacher & berm seats for Markdown Monday!

 

 Spend some time down by the beautiful Mississippi River this summer with the many events downtown. On Sunday, the FREE summer concert series, Music on the Levee, returns with a performance by Josh Duffee & His Graystone Monarchs. This Week in Downtown Davenport: 5/22 - 5/28

See Downtown Davenport from a whole new angle this weekend when the Ferris Wheel officially opens at Modern Woodmen Park! Purchase one of the 300 tickets available for your chance to be one of the first riders of the new attraction on Saturday. All proceeds benefit the Genesis Health Services Foundation. Later that night, come on back to watch the Quad Cities River Bandits take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels, or head to the RiverCenter and cheer on the local Quad City Rollers!

 

Spawning from the grunge scene during the time of Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, metal band, Alice in Chains, brings their alternative rock sound to the Adler Theatre tomorrow night. Check out a performance of distinct sound and high energy. While you're in the area, grab some tickets for the world premier of "Standing Ground," a 5th feature film produced by local director, David Clevenger.

 

Expand your artistic horizons at the Figge this weekend when they open not just one, but two new exhibitions! The Innovators and Legends exhibit features generations in textiles and fiber, while it's companion exhibition, Local Threads, features vibrant, imaginative artwork from artists right here in the Quad Cities region. Be sure to mark your calendars for the opening reception of both exhibits next Thursday.

 

Younger artists are set to participate in the MidCoast Fine Arts' Artwork Expo on Saturday at Bucktown Center for the Arts to compete for prize money for their high school art department through various art-based competitions. When it's all said and done, the ten pastel murals will then be on display as featured artists in an exhibit in the Bucktown Gallery! Make sure you show your support and check it out!

 

Wine and dine at Me & Billy's tonight for their WVIK Wine Social. Help support the Augustana Public Radio while enjoying fine wine and delicious foods. You'll also have a chance to hear from a celebrity guest! On Tuesday, test your trivia skills during their Bar Wars Trivia!

This Week in Downtown Davenport: 5/8 - 5/14

Thank Mom for all she does this weekend by celebrating Mother's Day downtown! Find unique gifts, flowers, and crafts at the Farmer's Market when they honor mom's on Saturday. On Sunday, treat Mom to all of her brunch favorites at Hotel Blackhawk, Rhythm City Casino, or another delicious downtown restaurant. Afterward, participate in a public skate with Mom at River's Edge!  We've compiled a handy list of Mother's Day deals for you; check out our website.

Spend Saturday and Sunday perusing jewelry, photography, and more at Beaux Arts Fair. We can't forget to mention there will also be musical entertainment, children's activities, and plenty of food vendors! Take time to check out the Figge exhibitions, too, for $2 admission.  Beaux Arts Fair is a great way to spend Mother's Day weekend, so plan to stop by Saturday or Sunday.

Saturday night, Bucktown Center for the Arts and MidCoast Fine Arts pair with visual artists, musicians, and performing artists to celebrate women in the arts during the 10th and final  Venus Envy Quad Cities. Tomorrow, Chicago's The Steepwater Band takes the stage with Edward David Anderson. Featuring music, art, dance, and other talents, A D Good Time Volume 7 takes place Saturday at RME, too!

Six veterans from six different wars will each throw a first pitch at the River Bandits game tomorrow night for the AUSA Military Appreciation Night at Modern Woodmen Park. All military, active, Reserve, Guard, and veterans receive free tickets for the game courtesy of AUSA. Next week, Rhythm City Casino honors those who serve with a free breakfast with military ID.

Get those bikes ready Saturday, it's time for Cinco de Biko! Organized by Russell Construction, this casual bike ride raises funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Participants start in front of the Front Street Brewery at the Freight House and choose their path to five designated stops- Bent River Brewery, Great River Brewery, Rudy's Tacos, Rock Island Boat Club, or Front Street Brewery. Pick up a bead at all five locations for a chance to win a prize!

Celebrate the coming of spring at the Adler Theatre this weekend when Ballet Quad Cities presents Spring is in the Air (Rite of Spring). Be one of the few to see the ballet's first performance of their interpretation of Igor Stravinsky's Right of Spring on Saturday.
