DES MOINES, IOWA (December 2, 2019) — For the first time in state history, there are more than 2 million active voters in Iowa heading into a general election year. Secretary of State Paul Pate announces that 2,014,226 Iowans are registered to vote in the state. That is the most ever at the start of December prior to a general election.

DES MOINES, IOWA (November 20, 2019) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate announced on Wednesday several new measures his office is taking to ensure the integrity of Iowa’s felon database. Felons are currently barred from voting in Iowa unless their rights have been restored by the Governor. Iowa’s felon database contains more than 90,000 files.

More than 300 schools have registered to take part in the Straw Poll, which will measure students’ preferred candidates in the Presidential, Senate, and House races.  

DES MOINES, IOWA (October 16, 2019) — Thousands of students will vote for their preferred candidates for President,  Senate, and House during Secretary of State Paul Pate’s Iowa Youth Straw Poll on Tuesday, October 29. This will be the first Iowa Youth Straw Poll since a change in Iowa law that allows 17-year-olds to register to vote and participate in primary elections. Next year, they can vote in the Iowa Caucuses and the June primary if they will be 18 by November 3, 2020.

Sec Pate’s office is sending Safe at Home brochures and stickers to Iowa laundromats, encouraging them to prominently display the materials.
