Drawing from the human figure has long been part of the traditional training for artists, and in the Figge Art Museum's fascinating new exhibition Figuratively Drawn: Works from the Figge Collection, on display from April 13 through April 19, guests of the Davenport venue will explore the infinitely varied ways that the body can be portrayed by artists who use the human form as a jumping-off point and drawing as their medium.

An eagerly awaited exhibition featuring dozens of recent and debuting works in a variety of artistic mediums, the 41st Rock Island Art Guild Fine Arts Exhibition will be on display at the Figge Art Museum April 13 through May 17, with the Davenport venue housing paintings, sculptures, installations, and more by artists living within a 150-mile radius of the Quad Cities.

With the new year comes a trio of new exhibitions at Moline's Quad City Arts International Airport Gallery, with three gifted Midwestern artists showcasing a variety of works from January 3 through March 3: landscape paintings by Emily Fitzpatrick, acrylic paintings by Kelly Schnell, and mixed-media fiber creations by Colleen Curry.

Dedicated to preserving and promoting the tradition of art-education principles developed by artist and longtime St. Ambrose University instructor Edward M. Catich, the Art Legacy League invites the public to its 2019 Comfort & Joy Open House at Davenport's J.B. Young Opportunity Center, a December 27 holiday event boasting art activities, refreshments, and a celebration of world-renowned calligrapher Catich's finest works.

Each of the current visiting painting and sculpture exhibits at the Figge Art Museum is worth seeing on its own. Combined, the fare at the Figge is packed with visual value and should not be missed.

Photographs, watercolors, and giant glass goblets will all be on display in the next collective exhibition at the Quad City Arts Center, with the Rock Island venue, from December 13 through January 24, showcasing evocative and beautiful works by Chris Rayborn of Davenport, Tim Schiffer of Iowa City, and John Miller of Champaign.

A striking celebration of color, in all of the word's varied interpretations, is on display at Davenport's Bucktown Center of the Arts through January 11, with the local exhibition Show Your Colors! offering stunning examples of how 21 visual artists from the area chose to acknowledge its central theme.

Works by a trio of gifted Midwestern artists will be on display in the Quad City Arts International Airport Gallery through January 1, with the venue boasting paintings by Juliet Stock and Julia Kulish and functional ceramic art by Natalya Sots.

On October 11 and 12, an autumnal celebration of art will fill five venues in downtown Rock Island as MidCoast Fine Arts hosts Rock the Arts, with live music, demonstrations, and more taking place at the Quad City Arts Center, the NormaLeah Cancer Initiative, The Shoppes on 2nd, DeSoto Pottery Studio, and The ARTery/MidCoast Gallery West.

Drawings and photographs by a pair of gifted Midwestern artists will fill the Quad City Arts Center Gallery from October 18 through December 6, with the Rock Island venue housing the exhibits Sky Weave, featuring new works by Des Moines' Emily Newman, and The Set Table: Forks on the Left, Metaphors on the Right, boasting the talents of Muscatine-based photographer Randy Richmond.
