“Jane Eyrel" at the Black Box Theatre -- March 15 through 29

Friday, March 15, through Friday, March 29

Black Box Theatre, 1623 Fifth Avenue, Moline IL

Nominated for five 2001 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and lauded by Talkin' Broadway as a "successful dramatic interpretation of the ever-popular novel," the Charlotte Brontë adaptation Jane Eyre makes its area debut at Moline's Black Box Theatre from March 15 through 29, this rich and thoughtful entertainment also praised by Talkin' Broadway for its "luxuriant score, haunting and memorable music, and crisp, intelligent lyrics."

Brontë’s classic gothic romance is brought to life in Jane Eyre. This stage adaptation follows the independent, passionate governess Jane through her harsh childhood after being left as an orphan to an uncaring aunt, and continuing through her employment as a governess at Thornfield Hall. There, Jane meets the mysterious and magnetic Edward Fairfax Rochester, master of the house and warden of her pupil. Though drawn to each other, they are also haunted by the ghosts of Mr. Rochester’s past, which threaten to enjoy any possibilities of a future of love or happiness for either. This musical features a grand, sweeping score that transports the audience to a world of wild, ungovernable passion on the moors, with the original production's additional Tony Awards nominations including nods for Book of a Musical, Original Score, Lighting Design, and Leading Actress in a Musical.

Directing Jane Eyre for her venue is the Black Box's co-owner and artistic director Lora Adams, whose other recent directorial offerings for her venue have included Suddenly, Last Summer, Hello, Dolly!, All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914, and last month's Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story. Amy Trimble, herself a veteran of the theatre's productions of Clue: The Musical and I Love You Because, serves as the show's music director, while Jane Eyre's title character is portrayed, in her Black Box debut, by Kiera Lynn, who also appeared in the Circa '21 Dinner Playhouse's A Christmas Story: The Musical, Escape to Margaritaville, and Irving Berlin's White Christmas. Edward Fairfax Rochester is played by Joe Urbaitis of the theatre's Clue: The Musical and Company, while Adams' gifted ensemble is completed by Shelley Cooper, Karen LeFebvre, Doug Kutzli, Tyler Henning, Abby Berg, Heather Lueder, Eden Myers, Jakob Berg, Kirsten Myers, Em Foster, Daniel Williams, and Stephanie Perry.

Jane Eyre runs in Moline from March 15 through 29, with performances on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m., and an added performance on Thursday, March 28 at 7:30 p.m. Admission is $16, and more information and tickets are available by calling (563)284-2350 and visiting TheBlackBoxTheatre.com.
