RIVERDALE, IOWA (May 15, 2024) — The next meeting of the Quad Cities Flood Resiliency Alliance will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2024, 3PM, in the City Hall Community Room in Riverdale, Iowa. The Alliance is open to the public and is a forum for timely and educational information on flood prevention, mitigation, flood insurance, and floodplain management. DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 14, 2024) — During the entire month of June, River Action’s fifth annual Explore and Seek Scavenger Hunt aims to get families and explorers of all ages outdoors and connected with nature.  Once called “Ride and Seek,” this year’s hunt allows participants to bike, hike, walk, or drive to over twenty parks, Wild Places, and conservation areas to seek the answers to clues listed on a map that is provided with each registration.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 10, 2024) — River Action is thrilled to announce the official launch of its campaign to break the Guinness World Record for the largest flotilla during the highly-anticipated Fifteenth Annual Floatzilla event. Floatzilla, the ultimate celebration of community, outdoor adventure, and river conservation, returns stronger than ever this year, promising an unforgettable experience for all attendees.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (May 13, 2024) — Registration is now open for the Explore the River Series, part of River Action’s Summer Education Program. Participants get to learn first-hand from experts about the wildlife, history, culture, and geography along the Mississippi River through a series of Channel Cat Talks and Riverine Walks.

ROCK ISLAND, ILLINOIS (May 6, 2024) — River Action will turn out the Centennial Bridge lights at 11PM, on the nights of May 6, 7, and 8 in order to protect birds migrating nocturnally as they pass through the Quad City region. This operation will be conducted by Art-o-Lite/Crawford Company.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (April 17, 2024) On Earth Day, April 22, 2024, River Action will roll out 400 rain barrels to commemorate its four decades of commitment to environmental, economic, and cultural sustainability.

The "River Action Rolls Out the Rain Barrels" event will kick off with a photo opportunity at 8AM, April 22, 2024, at 1235 W 5th Street, Davenport Iowa 52802.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (April 11, 2024) — River Action’s Eddy Awards are presented in six categories who have done extraordinary work in the Mississippi River and its riverfront, including its tributaries: Education (innovations, program, curriculum), River Activity (recreation, relaxation), Arts (performance, written word, fine arts), Stewardship (environmental enhancement of the river), Revitalization (commerce, business, industry), and Special Recognition.

BETTENDORF, IOWA (March 7, 2024) — In conjunction with its annual Eddy Awards, River Action is offering Eddy Scholarships to students with a commitment to environmental interests. These scholarships were initiated with funding from a family foundation. This year they are being additionally funded by Janet and Norm Moline.

DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 7, 2024) — Since 2020, River Action has sold 5,600 rain barrels as part of its Retain the Rain Program. River Action will commemorate its fortieth anniversary May 2, 9AM, at the Waterfront Center in Bettendorf with a seminar titled “Unloading and Rolling Out 400 Rain Barrels for a Distribution on Earth Day.”

Rain barrels conserve water and prevent runoff into area streams and the Mississippi River allowing rain to be retained where it falls.
