Des Moines Psychic Agrees to Stop Claiming Services “Heal,” “Treat” Physical and Mental Illnesses

DES MOINES, IOWA (December 16, 2022) — A Des Moines woman has agreed to cease advertising her psychic medium services as being able to heal, cure, treat, prevent, or mitigate clients’ physical or mental health through a settlement with Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller. The state had alleged that Allison Campbell violated the Consumer Fraud Act when claiming her psychic-medium service provided unsubstantiated and misleading “healing work” to clients.

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller Announces $44.4 million Settlement with Medicaid Managed-Care Company Centene

DES MOINES, IOWA (December 15, 2022) — Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller announced a $44.4 million settlement with Centene Corp. over allegations the managed-care company overbilled the state’s Medicaid program for pharmacy benefits and services.

Centene, the largest Medicaid managed-care insurer in the nation, operates as Iowa Total Care in the state. It is one of three managed-care organizations under the state’s Medicaid program.

Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller Secures $70.3 Million in Opioid Funds from CVS and Walgreens

DES MOINES, IOWA (December 12, 2022) — Attorney General Tom Miller and other attorneys-general have finalized agreements with CVS and Walgreens over their role in the opioids crisis, which will provide Iowa $70.3 million. Under today’s agreements, CVS will pay $5 billion, and Walgreens will pay $5.7 billion, totaling $10.7 billion nationally.

ALERT: Text Messages Claiming Locked EBT Cards Are a Scam

DES MOINES, IOWA (December 7, 2022) — The Iowa Attorney General’s office and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services warn Iowans to be on the lookout for spam text messages regarding EBT cards.

EBT cards are used to distribute government benefits like food assistance, known as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or food stamps.

State Auditor Rob Sand Issues Advisory on Potential Phone Scam

DES MOINES, IOWA (December 5, 2022) — State Auditor Rob Sand today issued an advisory alerting Iowans to a potential phone scam in which the caller identifies themselves as a representative of the Iowa Auditor of State Office (AOS).

A concerned citizen notified the AOS Office on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, that they had received a phone call from a person inquiring about their mortgage. The caller also stated that they knew the concerned citizen’s name, address, and height.
