Offering a bold, provocative critique of societal structures through collaborative, resistance-driven prints, the exhibition Delusion of Choice, by the art collective Fatherless Print Posse, enjoys a showcase at Dubuque's Voices Studios April 4 through May 31, with the artists present for an opening celebration on April 4.
Founded in 2010, Fatherless Print Posse brings together the dynamic creative minds of Javier Jimenez, Greg Lang, Dave Menard, and Londoner Ben Rider. Their collaboration has grown over the years from a lighthearted meeting of artists to a provocative collective committed to creating art as an act of resistance against an increasingly commodified world. Drawing from the bold, democratic nature of printmaking, the collective’s works consistently showcase their anti-establishment ethos and DIY aesthetic, fostering dialogue on issues of social justice, identity, and collective power.
Delusion of Choice invites viewers to engage with thought-provoking pieces that reflect the collective’s ongoing dialogue with political and societal structures. The exhibition will feature a range of printmaking techniques, installations, and mixed media works designed to question the true nature of choice in a world where freedoms are often controlled or illusionary. The artwork provides a platform for critical reflection on the tension between the individual and the state, urging viewers to examine their roles in shaping or resisting the systems that govern their lives.
An opening reception for both Fatherless Print Posse: Delusion of Choice and the exhibition Priscilla Steele: Fresh Steele will take place on April 4 at 5:30 p.m., with the artists present, refreshments served, and everyone invited to participate in the expanding art scene in Dubuque's Central Corridor. Taken together, the exhibits invite viewers to experience a spectrum of artistic expression as the venue showcases compelling art that bridges personal introspection with collective consciousness.
Both exhibits will be on view from April 4 through May 31, gallery admission is free, and more information is available by visiting VoicesStudios.org.
