WHITEWATER, WISCONSIN (March 21, 2024) -- Sarah Prigge from Port Byron, Illinois, who is studying Psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, is a peer mentor for the 2023-24 academic year.
Peer mentors serve as a resource to new students during their first semester at UW-Whitewater, leading them through the Warhawk Welcome, joining them in their New Student Seminar section, and checking in individually. Throughout the fall semester, peer mentors remain in contact with new students and help them feel at home on campus.
Working out of the First Year Experience office, peer mentors develop leadership, communication, and group-facilitation skills through the program.
Transfer orientation leaders for the fall of 2023 included Bri Kosiboski, Carmen Kraayvanger, Joe McKearn, and Sarah Wendt on the Whitewater campus, and Ciara Featherly and Colleen Lapin on the Rock County campus. Spring 2024 transfer orientation leaders include Kraayvanger, McKearn, and Ashlyn Dent.
Students typically apply and interview for the position in the spring semester and begin the position in the fall. A limited number of peer mentors are hired to work in the spring semester. For more information and questions, contact fye@uww.edu.
