Jolie Holland at the Raccoon Motel -- June 12.

Monday, June 12, 8 p.m.

Raccoon Motel, 315 East Second Street, Davenport IA

Hailed by Americana UK for her "distinctive sound and her measured delivery of a lyric," rock, country, and Americana singer/songwriter Jolie Holland headlines a June 12 concert at Davenport's Raccoon Motel, the artist's album The Living & the Dead having been lauded by Pitchfork as a work that "packs a full and commanding wallop," as well as "a mini-manifesto on how to weld varied American sounds together and also f---ing rock at the same time."

Growing up in Houston, Texas, Holland left the state in 1994, spending time in Austin, New Orleans, and San Francisco before ending up in Vancouver, Canada, where she was one of the founding members of The Be Good Tanyas. Holland left the band before the 2000 release of their debut album, Blue Horse, on which she appears prominently, choosing to return to San Francisco, where she recorded her first album in 2002's Catalpa. Originally self-released, the recording was later picked up and re-released by ANTI-, the label with whom Holland eventually released 2004's Escondida. The artist's fellow ANTI- labelmates Tom Waits and Sage Francis have long been outspoken fans of Holland's; Waits nominated her for the Shortlist music prize, while Francis told the Chicago Tribune that Escondida was his most listened to album of 2005.

Since then, Holland has toured globally and released another four critically acclaimed solo albums for ANTI-: 2006's Springtime Can Kill You, 2008's The Living & the Dead, 2011's Pint of Blood, and 2014's Wine Dark Sea. The singer/songwriter has also enjoyed a number of collaborations with other artists, including with Sage Francis on his album Human the Death Dance, and Booker T., with whom she recorded the classic song "What a Wonderful World" in 2007. In 2016, Holland reunited with Be Good Tanyas bandmate Samantha Parton and they began touring as a duo, releasing the jointly-credited album Wildflower Blues on Cinquefoil Records in 2017 and embarking on a joint tour through 2018. Currently, Holland is embarking on her summer tour that begins in Minnesota on June 10 and will, after Iowa, take her to Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Arizona, and New York.

Jolie Holland headlines her Davenport engagement on June 12, admission to the 8 p.m. concert is $18, and tickets are available by visiting TheRaccoonMotel.com.
