“Young Artists at the Figge,” through May 15

Always an eagerly awaited series at the Figge Art Museum, the latest incarnation of Young Artists at the Figge will be on display through May 15, with the Davenport venue again celebrating the accomplishments of budding creative talents of local elementary art students whose works will be showcased in a continuing series of individual exhibitions.

For the 2022 installment of Young Artists at the Figge, eight area school districts are being represented throughout the end of winter and the beginning of spring, including the districts of Muscatine, Moline, Bettendorf, Geneseo, Pleasant Valley, North Scott, Davenport, and Rock Island/Milan. As the Figge's Director of Education Melissa Mohr said, “Art is more important than ever as kids continue to process the challenges they face during this pandemic. It’s an opportunity for them to explore their experiences and emotions through creativity.” All of the exhibitions are sponsored in part by the Brand Boeshaar Foundation Fund, Hubbell-Waterman Foundation, and Scott County Regional Authority, and as the Figge's Web site states, "In their artworks, students show how important creativity continues to be amid the ongoing challenges of the pandemic. Whether students are wearing masks or having limited interactions, there are countless therapeutic benefits to creation."

The schedule for this year's Young Artists at the Figge features: Muscatine District sponsored by Kent Corporation, January 29 through February 6; Moline District sponsored by Tom and Brooke Terronez, February 12 through 20; Bettendorf District sponsored by GreenState Credit Union, February 26 through March 6; Geneseo District, March 12 through 20; Pleasant Valley District, sponsored by GreenState Credit Union, March 26 through April 3; North Scott District, April 9 through 17; Davenport District, April 23 through May 1; and Rock Island/Milan District sponsored by Mark and Deborah Schwiebert, May 7 through 15.

Regular museum hours 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays (10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursdays) and noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays, and general admission is $4-10.
