"Kindness"
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA (March 29, 2021) — The Iowa Abortion Access Fund (IAAF), a Cedar Rapids-based non-profit that provides financial assistance to individuals seeking abortions, is moving their annual poster show online. Beginning April 1, 2021, and continuing through April 30, the show offers 10 different posters for $10 each. For each sale, RayGun will give $10 to IAAF and $5 to the artist.
“Requests for abortions in 2021 are at an all-time high for our organization. Across Iowa, we are witnessing recent demand almost 50% higher than our 2020 averages,” said Jennifer Leatherby, IAAF president.
Currently, individuals are unable to receive any public funding for abortions or abortion-related medical expenses, unless life-endangerment, rape, incest, or a fetal anomaly is determined. The governor must approve Medicaid-funded abortion. “That’s where IAAF comes in,” Leatherby said. “Since 1978, IAAF has made payments directly to clinics to partially cover the costs that would otherwise be unaffordable by our clients.”
The Art for Access poster show is an affordable way to help raise money for IAAF and support local artists. Jenn Patterson, an IAAF board member, and Iowa City resident, is one of this year’s featured artists. Patterson is donating all funds received for their poster directly to IAAF, “My poster, entitled ‘Kindness’, is an important reminder that abortion is a difficult concept for many people, but keeping kindness at the forefront can and does help. People in all different kinds of situations are in need of your help, not judgment.”
Visit RayGun all throughout April to choose from 10 different posters and artists for just $10 each. For more information about IAAF, visit their website at iowaabortionaccessfund.org.
