WASHINGTON DC (October 24, 2019) — Senator Charles "Chuck" Grassley is asking for details on individuals who have committed serious human-rights violations and then fraudulently sought refuge in the United States. Today, Sen Grassley sent a letter to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Matthew Albence seeking information on Operation No Safe Haven V, an operation that targeted human-rights violators who were able to enter the United States despite their past crimes. Sen Grassley requested information relating to scale and scope of crimes committed by individuals who were targeted by the operation, inter-agency liaison efforts, and how these human-rights violators are able to enter and remain in the country.

“I am a strong supporter of integrity in our immigration system. I am especially concerned that human-rights violators have been able to enter the United States through fraud and misrepresentation and safely settle in this country as if they had never committed such heinous crimes. Human-rights violators represent a population of migrants who have committed atrocities, and they must be rooted out and removed,” Sen Grassley wrote.
