MOLINE, ILLINOIS (May 21, 2019) — The Quad City International Airport, operated by the Metropolitan Airport Authority of Rock Island County, recently implemented a comprehensive application-process including minimum standards for ground-transportation operators doing business at the Quad City International Airport. Ground-transportation operators includes businesses such as Uber, Lyft, taxis, and other for-hire shuttle service providers.

Benjamin Leischner, Executive Director, says “We’ve made necessary improvements for passengers relying on ground-transportation operators in order to ensure a positive and safe experience for our travelers. Service providers were invited to participate and provide feedback on the permit-application process. A primary focus of the change was centered on safety and insurance, which better protects both the passenger and the airport. The established monthly rate paid by those who chose to participate has not increased since 2004, but the Airport will continue to find ways to improve the overall passenger experience.” Leischner adds, “Agreements were made last month with both Uber and Lyft, two of the most common online-rideshare platforms, which are now compliant with airport ordinances. This levels the playing field for providers and ensures the customer has safe, reliable transportation services.” Leischner explained that the TNCs pay a fixed annual-fee and a per-trip pick-up fee, neither of which is paid by the driver providing the ride.

Travelers who would like to pre-arrange taxi or shuttle appointments or view a list of available airport-approved options may visit www.qcairport.com and click on the “transportation” section. There are currently eight permitted ground-transportation operators providing service at the Quad City International Airport. Appointments are recommended for late-evening arrivals to ensure best-possible service.
