DES MOINES, IOWA (April 29, 2019) — After serving as Executive Director of Keep Iowa Beautiful since it was founded in 1999, Gerry Schnepf is stepping down from that post. "Iowan's have a great deal of pride in Iowa and I share that pride," said Gerry. "Hopefully, my efforts over the past four decades have helped to build that Iowa pride." Gerry's many years of service to Iowa have included:

  • Work with the former Iowa Conservation Commission and a great set of people;
  • Establishment and founding of the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation with the help of Governor Robert D Ray (this program set the foundation for a statewide trail-system for Iowa); and
  • Initiating programs to help people moving toward retirement (Changing Directions LLC) with his wife Pat and others.

"It is again time for change," said Gerry. "The end of May is my last day with Keep Iowa Beautiful, a great organization with a great board, staff, communities and thousands of volunteers from around the state." Gerry added, "My next efforts are being explored and will continue to benefit Iowans and our great state." Gerry's volunteer time with other organizations has included Silo's and Smokestacks in its early years; 14 years of MotorIoway Vintage car-tours that began with the Iowa Sesquicentennial; Iowa County Conservation Boards association; Red Flag Horseless Carriage tours in SE Iowa; Iowa Transportation Museum; Blood Run National Historic Landmark; French Icarian Colony Foundation; Salisbury House; Byways of Iowa Foundation; the Des Moines Concours d'Elegance; and many other efforts have all helped make Iowa the #1 state to live, work, and raise a family.
