DAVENPORT, IOWA (February 1, 2019) — Teen Dating Violence Awareness month will be observed from February 1, 2019 through February 28, 2019.

Family Resources’ Survivor Services is partnering with local schools to raise awareness about teen-dating violence and teach about healthy relationships. Survivor Services will host informational booths at area basketball games and play a halftime event of knock-out, to “knock out” teen dating violence. To help raise awareness, the public is encouraged to wear orange to the games and on February 14th for Wear Orange Day.

Teen dating violence includes physical, psychological, or sexual abuse; harassment or stalking of any person ages 12 to 18 in the context of a past or present romantic relationship. “It is important we create a world where every young person knows they deserve a safe and healthy relationship,” said Ashley Odom, Director of Survivor Services. “It is important we not only educate young people on what a healthy relationship looks like, but how parents, school personnel and peers can safely prevent and react to those situations.” Family Resources’ Survivor Services Department offers services throughout a six county area to survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, sex and labor trafficking, homicide, and other violent crimes.

If your business, organization or service group wants to take part in Wear Orange Day, take a photo an upload it to social media with the hashtag #TeenDVAwarenessMonth #KnockOutTeenDV
