Community leader and job creator Fred Hubbell officially launches campaign to be Governor of Iowa
DES MOINES – Today, community leader, job creator, and lifelong Democrat Fred Hubbell announced his campaign for Governor. Hubbell has never before sought public office. He has spent his life building businesses, creating jobs, turning around troubled state agencies, and caring for people. He is running for Governor because he thinks politicians in Iowa have had the wrong priorities. Hubbell’s priority will be to get Iowa growing by putting Iowans first - not special interests or re-election.
Fred Hubbell provided the following statement:
“I’ve spent my life creating jobs, supporting our community, and fixing troubled state agencies when asked to serve our state. Politicians in Iowa - beholden to special interests and their re-election campaigns - have had the wrong priorities for the last seven years. They have squandered a billion-dollar surplus with tax loopholes and corporate giveaways, resulting in a budget crisis. They have consistently underfunded education, jeopardized Iowans’ health, and allowed incomes to stagnate, all while failing to protect Iowa’s precious natural resources and ensure clean water.
"As Governor, I intend to get Iowa growing. My priorities are clear: fix Iowa’s budget crisis, invest in education at all levels to create skilled employees for the future, help grow small and mid-size businesses, and get incomes rising across Iowa. We need to make healthcare more affordable and accessible throughout the state, and invest in modern infrastructure, including high-speed internet services.”
Fred announced his candidacy with a video, “Our Iowa,” in which fellow Iowans describe Fred’s lifetime of work - alongside his wife Charlotte - to create jobs and improve every Iowan’s quality of life.
Throughout this week, Fred will hold ‘workshops’ around the state of Iowa, where he will participate in substantive, solution-oriented discussions, focused on education and jobs in Iowa. There is much work to be done, and Fred looks forward to rolling up his sleeves right away. Details on Fred’s upcoming travel around Iowa will be released this afternoon.
