On February 11 and 12 at Davenport's Outing Club, the Quad Cities' professional dance company Ballet Quad Cities will present its traditional assemblage of vignettes Love Stories, and this year's collection of Valentine's Weekend pieces will climax with what is perhaps the love story: William Shakespeare's timeless, tragic tale of Romeo and Juliet. Don't worry, though. Before Ballet Quad Cities breaks hearts, they'll be giving audiences plenty of reasons for cheer.

Dubbed one of romance’s brightest new voices, acclaimed author Jasmine Guillory will discuss her most recent novel While We Were Dating and the modern rom-com in a February 16 virtual event co-presented by the Rock Island and Moline Public Libraries, the writer's beloved novel The Proposal lauded by NPR as "rollicking, charming, and infinitely zesty."

A little-known but historic event in the history of the Hoover administration will be presented as part of the Davenport Public Library's virtual 3rd Thursday at Hoover's Presidential Library & Museum programming, with retired Stanford University staffer Evelyn McMillan, on February 17, discussing how the Brussels Lace Committee, the Hoovers, and two major relief organizations came together to support the lacemakers of Belgium during World War I in the virtual program A Successful Humanitarian Story Hidden in Belgian War Lace of 1914-1918.

An exploration into the innovations that have resulted when the natural world is allowed to be our guide, the new Putnam Museum & Science Center exhibition Mother Nature: Modern Muse is currently on display at the Davenport venue, this celebration following the museum's mission of delivering to patrons "a sense of place, time, and purpose to ignite human potential and inspire our diverse community to learn about and care for our world and all its people."

Its enduring legacy including 30 seasons on ABC, 470 episodes, and the receiving of 18 Primetime Emmy Awards, the TV-competition smash Dancing with the Stars comes to Davenport's Adler Theatre on February 2 in a thrilling live show boasting nine professional dancers and such special guests as Amanda Kloots, Jimmie Allen, and Mirror Ball Champions Kaitlyn Bristowe and Iman Shumpert.

An acclaimed author, public speaker, radio host, and former halfback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, Rocky Bleier takes the stage at the University of Dubuque's Heritage Center for the touring sensation The Play with Rocky Bleier, a special January 28 event in which the guest will take audiences from his early years through his professional career and talk about the lessons he learned along the way.

An eagerly awaited wintertime treat populated, this year, with two-legged, four-legged, and winged friends, the annual celebration Icestravaganza returns to downtown Davenport in Icestravaganza 2022: A Zoo Animal Safari!, with this safe and family-friendly event – taking place from January 14 through 16 – boasting ice-sculpted renditions of creatures including lions, tigers, and bears. Oh my!

With the Washington Post deeming her latest novel “a fast-paced, darkly romantic journey,” and NPR stating that its characters are “unique, flawed, and sad in a way that burrows into your heart,” best-selling and award-winning novelist Silvia Moreno-Green will take part in a virtual conversation hosted by the Rock Island Public Library, the January 26 event allowing the author to discuss her 2021 book Velvet Was the Night and her genre-defying mashups of cultural noir and Lovecraft-ian horror.

On January 21 and 22, one of the most spectacular extreme-racing environments in the world will be re-created at Moline's TaxSlayer Center in the two-day Hoosier Racing Tire Arenacross Nationals, a touring event in which top professional and amateur athletes compete on man-made, custom-designed tracks built inside the country’s most well-known arena stages and amphitheaters.

In a special panel discussion taking place at the Bettendorf Public Library on January 25, area professors and their students will share some of their faculty-led experiences abroad, their Stories from Around the World program presented by the World Affairs Council of the Quad Cities and featuring Augustana College's Dr. Mariano J.
