Visitors will see stunning examples of experimental photography in this exhibition that features about 30 photographs by mid-20th century American photographers. In the Light: Photographs from the Sikkema Collection opens next week on Saturday September 13, 2008 and runs to January 4, 2009. The exhibition will be open during regular Figge hours and included with general admission.

As a preview to the exhibition, on Friday, September 12 at 10:30 am Figge is hosting a question and answer period with Brent Sikkema as he is interviewed by Bruce Carter, the host of the local Art Talks radio program. Mr. Sikkema donated 84 photographs from his extensive collection to the Figge.  Selected photographs from this gift will be exhibited during this exhibition.  The interview will be held in Figge's auditorium and is free with paid admission or membership; and free for college students, professors, and members.

All men, young and old, are welcome and invited to attend a guest night hosted by the Bend of the River Barbershop Chorus on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:45 p.m. upstairs in the Community Room at the Rock Island Public Library, 401 - 19th Street in downtown, Rock Island, IL.  h'orderves and drinks will be served free of charge, so don't worry if this is during the regular time that you would normally have dinner.
We are looking for men of all ages who love to sing and are interested in learning about singing barbershop quartet music and also who would like to join our group.  It's fun and the fellowship is great!  If you are looking for a group with which to sing and where you can make some new friends with whom to share with about a common interest, then this is your chance.

DAVENPORT - Strike up the band! The Quad City Wind Ensemble will hold an open rehearsal at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 24th in Madsen Hall in the Galvin Fine Arts Building at St. Ambrose University, 518 West Locust Street in Davenport, IA.  Area musicians interested in joining the Quad City Wind Ensemble are invited to attend the open rehearsal, meet our director and members, and participate in our first rehearsal of the 2008-2009 season. 

 

Dr. Charles B. DCamp, then director of bands at St. Ambrose University, formed the Quad City Wind Ensemble in 1987 in conjunction with a small group of highly motivated musicians.  Today it is one of the finest ensembles of its kind in the country, comprised of the area's finest wind and percussion players who audition for membership in this select group. The Quad City Wind Ensemble performs three concerts each year and hosts the annual Quad City Wind Ensemble Young Performer's Solo Competition in the spring.

Treat your best friend to a cooling dip in a pool. 

Child actors and actresses for speaking roles, featured roles and background extras are needed for a Hollywood remake of Steven King's "Children of the Corn". Open casting calls will begin this Thursday, August 14 at the Lodge Hotel in Bettendorf, Iowa and they will run through Monday, August 18. Hours from Thursday to Sunday will be from 10 am to 1 pm and again from 2 pm to 7pm. Audition hours on Monday, August 18 will be from 10 am to 1 pm. Respondents are asked to bring a photo. Look for directional signs in the Lodge lobby areas. The Lodge Hotel is located at 900 Spruce Hills Drive, Bettendorf, Iowa 52722.
